I'll never complain again.

I've learned a good lesson in life this year at pool. No matter how bad your game seems to be going, there are others that would give anything to be in your shoes.
About three years ago I started a second league at a different place and while I already knew about half the players, I also got to know about 20 some players I had never met before. One of those players who I became good friends with had on and off medical issues with one of his legs. He never complained about it or how it interfered with his pool game. He just loved pool, and socializing with his pool friends.
At times he would show up in a wheel chair, or one of those wheel around things where you are resting one leg on it and wheel himself around to shoot instead of requesting a sub. He adapted quite easily to both when shooting. He had good days and some not so good, but always loved pool.
Last season he seemed to mostly be getting better and I was glad for him. Then league started this fall and he looked pretty good but after about a month I could tell he was having trouble again getting around.
One league night he didn't show up and a sub was there for him. I went over to his partner and asked what was up. Turned out his leg was infected again and they had to amputate some of it off. We talked for a bit about what was next for him and his partner said he planned on still shooting pool as soon as they let him. Two weeks later, there he was at pool in his wheel chair, not complaining, looking forward to better days ahead when he could get fit for an artificial limb to be able to get out of his wheel chair. He's a great person, and has a great supportive partner. I'm glad he's back shooting pool again and expect to soon see him showing up for league walking again.

Puts things in perspective. Cheers to him.
We have a local player with type 2 who recently had to lose his 2nd lower leg.
He is now playing every week standing on two of those spring-type prosthetics.
Still plays real well too. I don't recall ever hearing him complain about his physical limitations while playing.
Can't say enough about people like that. Thanks for posting.

playing in Vegas at BCA/VNEA 8 ball tournaments 25 years ago, there was a young man who played, but he had a birth defect where his arms were short...his hands were at his elbows, had no forearms. He used a "table bridge" made from 2 bridge heads and a short lenght of shaft. He played very well considering this handicap. He was an inspiration to all that saw him play.

If, by chance, he sees this, God bless you.

I play in the OPPL Ontario pool players league and a friend of mine i have known on and off for 50yrs lost his leg from just above the knee down left leg. Very good player and never complains he won't say but i think it was diabetes were both 73 two weeks apart and enjoy playing.
