I'm an "Old-Timer"

I discovered this site a while back..........lurked for some time....It's a lot of fun reading all "youalls" comments. Some are educational and interesting......some controversial....it's great!!!

Who knows what's going to happen with this new experiment, but it's a step in the right direction...........IMO

I thought I might be a Champion.....more than likely a legend in my own mind! I didn't make it...lol. Marriage and kids made me slow down and see what really mattered..........food on the table. I traveled hundreds of miles to play in bar table 8-ball tournaments, 9-ball tournament, 3-cushion tournaments......and did pretty well back in the "old days" when gas was 25 cent a gallon and milk was 59 cents.

But the money hasn't kept up with the expenses......as you all are aware of....lol....except for some of these young bucks that never worked for a living!!! Motel 6 was 17 dollars, steak and eggs was 3.99.....A tournament win might get you 6 or 7 hundred dollars........best I ever did was 1800. Some times we made a little extra on the side.......or lost some of it. Calcuttas paid good sometimes.

I beat the 6th in the nation in a 3-cushion tournament to win 400 dollars! And who did they interview for tha news coverage? The loser.....How did this kid beat you? hahaha

I hope the IPT makes it. If it doesn't....at least somebody tried! It's held this "old man's" interest for awhile! I've played some of the "Hall of Famers" over the years..beginning in the early 60's. That's not saying that I beat many of them, but thay knew I was in the game. Most of them still know my name when I go to watch a tournament.

Maybe the big money can get some Sponsors to fork over some big bucks. The video coverage has ESPN beat all to HELL....better angles, more cameras, and on demand!!! It can't hurt any.

Sorry......I'll quit rambling on......never say much on here. I still work 40 hours a week! Hven't hit the lottery yet! lol But I'll take the 7,8, and the breaks from anyone....for awhile.......till I'm broke! lol

Good luck IPT........Maybe they'll have a Seniors division someday....when I'm about 90.

Welcome

You're just the type of guy I like to chew the Pool fat with .... lol

Holy cow! I would need 2 hands to hold on to Margaret there, I mean
that Margarita ... LMAO ... lol

hahaha That Marguerita is only $3 at the Maruerita Grill on the Homosassa River......Homosassa Florida. And there's one over twice as huge for $6!!! Come on Down!

Just realized who I was talking to! I'''m from Emporia, Kansas.....just up the road 77 miles on the turnpike. Used to play at Rumors once in awhile. Had my 15 minutes of fame there against Matlock 20 years ago.

By the way.... where is Terry Young now?

I thought I recognized you ..

He still owns Rumors, but it is not the same place as far as activities go.
He caters to league players, inhouse leaguers a lot, doesn't have the big
tournaments anymore, holds lots of poker games there. I last heard that
he pissed off most of his team members, and they now play out of SidePockets now for league (big place that went in out by Tyler and Kellog). The team members though are players (gamble some, 50-100 sets), but they are not as good or as knowledgeable as Terry is about Pool, and I think they probably had an ego problem.

I have been friends with Terry 30+ years, ever since he up and picked me to be his partner down at Burke's playing against Jr. Brown and Mike Fetters for $30 a man a game. I was new to Wichita at that time, having moved recently from Houston, so I considered it a complement.

I'd heard Terry had sold Rumors and moved away. Glad to hear he's still kicking. He had two good tournaments a year down there. Played in some ring games on the big table in the back, too.

Jr. Brown and Mike Fetters! lol Now that brings back memories. I started going to Wichita in the 60's while I was still in High School in Emporia. "Young Eyes" Culver, "Big Train" Stevens, Wimpy, just to name a few of the other "Old-Timers". OH YEAH.....Fat Donnie Dearmore....he could sink a few balls back then, too!

My 17th summer I hit a good lick in Emporia and headed to Wichita with Mel (Kenny) Eberhart and Earl Wilhite.......ended up in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico for a week at "boys Town". Those were the days! Played all over Dallas on the way back....then Oklahoma City. My Parents thought I was in Wichita staying with some friends! hahaha
