I'm Impressed

During the first 2 1/2 months of the year I wasn't around a computer and able to tune into AZ, so this might have already been reported unbeknownst to me. But I'm just getting around to reading my April issue of Inside Pool and a Tri-State tournament result in New York had Tony Robles winning the event, George San Souci - 2nd, Frankie Hernandez - 4th, and Jude Rosenstock - 9th.

Damn Jude, I'm impressed. That's some great playing in a pretty potent field, especially for a once legally blind guy. Seriously....congratulations.

Jennifer Barretta also was on the hill and had George San Souci down a couple of games at the time but missed a combo on the 9 that would have been the winner and George ran out for the game along with two more racks to knock her off. The girl is definitely getting good.

Jude is defintely a great player and a great guy to boot. Met him at the Ocean State Joss event and I just missed seeing him play Frankie. Jude lost but made a nice appearance at the tournament.

Jude,
If you read this, I hope to see you at Turning Stone in August.

Dave, we paid our $135 entry fee a few weeks ago in Albany, NY, at the Joss tournament. So far, I understand that this field will be limited to 128 players, and Tour Director Mike Zuglan is now filling up the player roster. This is the $25,000-added Joss Northeast 9-Ball Tour Season Finale which will be held at Turning Stone Casino in Verona, New York. If a player has not competed in at least THREE Joss tournaments in the current season, the entry fee is $335.

Last year's Joss Season Finale was held in Portland, Maine, and the field was a railbird's delight: Earl Strickland, Alex Pagulayan, Rodney Morris, Charlie "Hillbilly" Bryant, Canadian Champs Danny Hewitt and Luc Salvas, Karen Corr, Mike Davis, Keith McCready (of course), Ryan "Genie Man" McCreesh, Julie Kelly, Joey K., and the winner, Danny "Kid Delicious" Basavich. Here's my pics from last season: http://hometown.aol.com/jamalloy/jossfinale.html

Having already attended an event at Turning Stone Casino, I can tell you that it's a first-class venue, plenty of room between each table for the players, plenty of great eats and drinks, and, of course, we all had a blast playing the casino games. The player roster will fill up well ahead of time. Anybody who is interested in playing in the $25,000-addded Joss Northeast 9-Ball Tour Season Finale in August, I would advise you to call Mike Zuglan and reserve your spot ASAP.

See you there, Dave! :)

JAM

Absolutely JAM. First beer is on me as my buddy and I will be up there for two days. I got an email from Mike Z saying that Earl is already signed up and it's great to know that Keith will be playing as well.
He also said that Mike Massey will be there to do two shows which should be great. I've never had the opportunity to see him live so that will be an extra treat for me.
Looking forward to it.

Regards,
Dave

Now THIS is embarrassing! For the record, I'm not a great player. That's a word I reserve for Tony, Ginky & Frankie. I do love playing in the Tri-State Opens and the Ocean State is one of my favorite events of the year. Both feature some of the best players professional pool has to offer and it's always a treat to face off against any of them, especially if I happen to make 'em work.

I hope one day, I'll improve to a point where I might actually have a chance to win one of those events but for now, it's an aweful lot of fun just blending-in.

DDKoop, thank you for the kind words. You made my day! If the wife and life permit, I'll be at Turning Stone and for your post, the first round will be on me!

BTW, I didn't play Tony, Frankie or Ginky in that Tri-State which is part of the reason why I finished as well as I did! And that guy Lester plays JAM-UP!

I hope to see you there. Second round is on me, unless of course you're still competing :-)

What's happening with George San Souci recently? I remember him playing at the WPC a few times, not doing very well, then pretty much disappeared from most of the major tournaments.

I read somewhere that he was considering trying his hand (pun intended!!) at professional poker.

Yes, he did say that but as far as I can tell, I don't believe that to be the case any longer. He's playing pool regularly and will go through stints of rigorous training. He still can get pretty amped about the game so I wouldn't be surprised if he came back. In fact, I put the odds at 3-1 he returns to professional pool in the next two years.
