IMO: The Worst Stereotypes.

I have not had anything to post in a long time but I am usually always on AZ reading tons everyday I just hardly have an opinion being that I am a younger lesser experienced player.

I finally have something I wanted to post about however. I play a lot of different games such as 1 pocket (very rarely) straight pool (occasionally) 8 ball (fair amount) snooker (2-3 times a month on the 12 footer) and 9-10 ball at least 2-3 times a week. I play them all on the 9 footer except snooker of course. I literally find all of these games equally as difficult to play with the odd small exception here and there.

The thing that I am about to rant on is that every time the topic of pool comes up it's always the same comment being thrown out by someone. Example: I used to play snooker on the 12 footers these little 9 footers are easy or I play straight pool and these banger games like 9 ball are a joke.... blah blah and so on. You guys get my drift I don't need to cover every single game or instance I think we are on the same page.

Am I just wrong to say that in my experience I find them all to be just as difficult in their own unique ways. I don't want to sound like I think I am a great player but I don't find it THAT much harder to pocket balls on the snooker table and I don't find picking my patterns in 8 ball so much easier than playing my shape in 10 ball. They are all different of course but they are all hard in their own way am I right? Sure some things are harder but I mean overall as a game you have to be great to play any of the above at a high level.

As I said I am a young guy and not as experienced as almost everyone on AZ (Not that you guys are old :P) so maybe some good solid feedback from anyone looking to seriously give me a better idea on the topic would make me more aware. Sorry that all my posts are lengthy I just like to articulate my thoughts clearly so this doesn't become one of those threads with attacks on how I insulted this game or how I said this wrong and so on.

Anyways any feedback would be great and if this topic has already been covered and I was unaware then I apologize I did not search more thoroughly just send me the link if you would like.

Thanks.

To an extent I agree. It's hard to compare games as a whole. Sure there are tougher aspects of straight pool then 8ball and vice versa. Some people have a knack at one and cant play a lick of another.

I do hate when I see some games being put down though, no need for that. I certainly have games I am better at, but I don't think that makes them easier.

I agree, I have friends that I can barely beat in 8 ball that I can beat in 9 ball a good amount of the time. I think the most common stereotype is how many snooker players look down on pool players. Like I said I play snooker and pool I don't find either one easier.

I agree.

played everything but 14.1

I have played most games on most tables from six foot bar box to twelve foot snooker table. Never pocketed a ball on a three cushion table so I won't talk about them. Anyway, what I found in any cue sport, any form of competition for that matter, it is the competitors who define how hard the game is. There is no table or game that is easy against a tough competitor, likewise there is no table or game that is real tough against a weak competitor.

Folks knocking any game or table are usually easy pickings if you can manage to get them on the table or in the game that is "too easy to play".

Each game has its own points, but some I prefer over others. I like drawn out matches, where everything isn't a race and strategy takes precedence. Certainly there is strategy in all of your mentions but you're less like to hear someone say, "oh you play 'dirty pool', eh", if you safe in a bar than you are when playing snooker. But, that situation is always dependent on your opponent and given how few things happen when playing 9-ball for example, it's easier to lose a game with a single missed escape.

Each variation has its merits and appeals to a different audience. So long as that audience provides our room owners, cue makers, and distributors business, I'm happy. Will you find me complaining that 30-second shot clocks are too long and boring and vote instead for 10-second clocks and give the ref a cattle prod if they go over the time limit, no.

Very good feedback from everyone so far I like how you mention to get them on the easy table lol. Cue sports are fun and shouldn't be compared only played IMO. On another note I will probably always primarily play 9 and 10 ball but wow is snooker a blast to play on those 12's. I can play for hours and have such a great time.
