import ferrules

how do most of you replace a hollow ferrrule when the shaft has either a very short tennon or none at all? thanks Paul.

If this was a cheap import shaft, I would turn the job down. You really do not know what your getting into with those. It will cost you in the long run if something does go wrong. I would hate to replace a $10 shaft with something worth up to $100. If it where not import and it was close to 13mm, I would drill out a 5/16" hole 1" deep and glue in a tennon. Turn down and thread.

good luck, Jim.

that's was my problem. how can you charge 30 or 40 dollars to work on a 10 dollar shaft. I haven't tryed to repair one like this yet. I just tell them they would come out better finding a used shaft. thanks Jim. Pool Hall Paul.

for jobs like the one in question, you have to quote as high a price as possible. maybe they will decide not to repair it.

it's not your fault they they bought a cheap stick. put the onus on them to understand that the repair is not worth the trouble.

best to make them mad on the front end than to make them mad (and yourself sorry) on the back end.

I don't mince words. if a customer brings me a broken cue from Wall-Mart, etc., I tell them to carry it back to where they bought it and get it repaired there !
