Just wanted to give the headsup to all the folks on AZ that sell items via ebay. Take a look at this and act accordingly:

Quote from PayPal User Agreement :
Liability for claims filed directly with eBay through the eBay Buyer Protection resolution process. If you are an eBay Seller, eBay requires that you comply with the eBay Buyer Protection resolution process. As such, you have provided eBay with permission to make a final decision on a claim that a buyer files against you directly with eBay. If eBay makes a final decision that you lose a claim, you agree to allow PayPal to remove funds from your Account in order to reimburse eBay for your liability. "Item not received" claims filed directly with eBay are not covered by PayPal Seller Protection. See eBay Buyer Protection policy for more information. If your Balance isn’t sufficient to reimburse eBay, PayPal will place a hold on your Account until the earlier of: (1) sufficient funds are added to your Balance to reimburse eBay for your liability at which time we will reimburse eBay in full, or (2) 40 days from the date of eBay’s decision that you lose the claim at which time we will remove your Balance to partially reimburse eBay for your liability.

Opt-Out. If you do not want to allow PayPal to reimburse eBay for your liability, you may opt-out by calling eBay at 1-866-643-0898. Your opt-out will be effective within 3 Business Days. If you opt-out then eBay will not use your Account to recover amounts that you owe due to an eBay claim that you lost. This opt-out will not affect other amounts that you pay to eBay using your Account (such as your eBay fees).

even if you do not sell on Ebay at all, you should go ahead and opt out. That way, in the event your account is ever used for fraud, you then do not have to worry about that fraud being compounded by Paypal then removing funds from your bank account. IMO anyone who has Ebay and Paypal should opt out. There is nothing to benefit you by allowing this and you have nothing to lose and alot to possibly benefit by opting out.

If you opt out and you lose a claim and they say you owe them money. Where does the $ come from to pay the lost claim?

your paypal acct. i believe.

but if so does this only include current paypal balances? i think they might be able to rip money out of your linked bank account as well:angry::confused:

I've been selling on ebay since 2002 and this has happened a couple of times but they have never gone to the bank account... only to the PayPal Balance to collect. If the balance was not there, they ran it negative and recovered it thru sales. So, for me, I don't really see a benefit of opting out.

I'd like to also add: make sure you get----> signature confirmation<------(and insurance) on anything over $250. Otherwise, paypal is not required to protect you from falsified claims that the buyer didn't receive an item you shipped.

This recently happened to me and I am having to do all the legwork to get my money back. Luckily I did get insurance but not signature confirmation, just delivery confirmation. But so far, I've been on the phone for over an hour today with a conneticut post office and was at my local post office for 30 minutes dealing with this and yet, got nothing figured out! What a pain!

I opted out today. The opt out takes very little time. You have to log into ebay first and get a customer service pin. to do so go to customer support-->contact us. They give u a pin number. Make sure to call the specific number 1-866-643-0898 and not the cs number listed on ebay. That first number is an automated number, once u enter the pin you dont have to speak to anyone to get the opt out done. Takes like 30 sec.

I totally understand where some might feel like this isnt necessary. To me, its all about making sure I close off ways that paypal/ebay could create a big headache for me. Ebay wants you to NOT opt out. That alone should raise red flags, especially to pool players who have seen ways people move on them in the pool room. Now will Ebay/Paypal move on you in an unfair manner via this method? Probably wont happen, true...but if it did.....
