Improvement thru tournaments or wagering

Thank you to all who responded. I got some interesting answers and it seems split that both tournaments and wagering create the needed pressure for winning, therefore improving the mental game. I guess it is personal preference. For me, I prefer tournaments and seem to be affected by the possibility of losing money.

I really like the idea of 4 or 5 ahead for 20 or 30 bucks to start. I think that is plenty to get in stroke and would give me a little advantage. Once I get there, they usually have a hard time keeping up, it is just getting in stroke for me. I might try that a few times before giving up totally on wagering.

Any advice for a quicker startup for getting in stroke?

I want to be a better player on many levels and this might prove useful one day. Thanks again to all, shoot well!

To get in stroke I would rather match up with someone and gamble. Tourneys are fine as well, but many times you win a few matches and then have to sit and wait for the chart to catch up....that and some events take til the wee hours of the morning.....to win a few hundred bucks!

Gambling is easier to get going, if you start off a little slow you have as many bullets as are in your pocket to fight back. Nothing helps your game more then being down a couple of sets.....doubling the bet....then REALLY bearing down to grind out a win. It can be crippling to the opponent, and like a shot of adrenaline to you.

As far as how much to play for?....as much as will piss you off to lose is good....which obviously will differ for each of us. If I got lucky enough to play Efren....I'd drop a grand at the opportunity and love the chance. There are also some guys I'd HATE losing $100 to.....wierd huh?! :)

good luck getting in stroke.
