I have often wondered why they don't require, in the most important competitions, that the competitors have to perform a certain amount
of NEW TRICK SHOTS, not previously used in competition before.

Without some requirement, like this, it gets OLD fast. I believe that each competitor get the chance to perform 5 of his personal shots for a total of 10 performed overall.

I think that 2, minimum, should be required to be new shots that the artist developed especially for THAT COMPETITION.

Otherwise, it becomes a 'I know I can do this and joe blow can not' type competition, and railbirds are not treated to anything new. Watching the Japanese Trick Shots and the tricks they did and the atmosphere was much more exciting than our American type competitions.

Or do Japanese Trick Shot Artists just have more imagination than ours?

Requiring 2 shots out of 5 chosen to be new shots not performed in World competition before is very reasonable to me.

What do you think?

Exactly! Whose Shot is it Anyway??? Instead of setting-up circus props, they can have REAL pool players in the audience giving them scenarios they've encountered.

I'd love to get some more input on this subject as well. Artistic Pool is growing but it is still in the infancy stage. It could become huge with the right people giving it its direction. Any ideas and suggestions would be appreciated, if by no one else, by me.

The reason we have the format the way it is now is so we are all on the same level playing field. There are various shots ranging in difficulty from "any decent player should make it in 5 tries" to "you gotta be kidding me, did he just make that?!" But, like this, we're all on the same plane. In my opinion, if we are able to bring in our own shots to surprise the competition, it wouldn't be good for the spectators, rather it would be boring because the players would generally only make their own shots, and then still, some might miss their own because they are quite difficult.

The APTSA board is doing a great job, I think, by changing things up for 2007. Every few years, I'm finding out, the shot program changes. We recently voted on a number of shots so the program will be comprised of different shots, many of which were "invented" by the players. Like this, we will be able to bring new shots to the table, but not until all of the competitors have had an opportunity to practice them at home.

I would love some more input on this subject. I'll ask it this way, what would make you want to watch a trick shot tournament? If you own a pool room, what would make you want to host a tournament? If you are a potential sponsor, what would make you want to sponsor a tournament?
