I guess tincup would be a player always scouting around for chump change--aka a NIT; whereas, tinman would merely be a player with no heart.

Tell Mr. tin he needs to belly up to the table for a fair game next time I'm in town--e.g., a game of 14.1 for which he plays one handed and with a ten second shot clock.
