In pool, how good is...well, good?

Good is when it doesn't matter who is at the table or what there doing , all you,re waiting for is your turn. I once saw Tommy Kennedy run 8 racks in a race to 11 and lose to Buddy Hall 11-10. Buddy had a 10- 2 lead Tommy tied him on the hill and lost the hill match. Which one was Good? Obviously Tommy was good but so was Buddy. If you Know all I need is a shot and I can win and it's not just a pipe dream . Your good

Skills Test

I think that the best way to answer your question on how good is good is for you or the person that you think is really good take the skills test (15-ball or 9-ball). You should be able to find the rules, etc., by doing a search for "skills test".

In my opinion, until the person is at least at the Semi-Pro level according to the skills test--they really aren't that good--and anyone at the Semi-Pro level or higher will find themselves at the top of a "normal" bar league and will make fast work of the average "good shooter".

I think you'll find that when you get to a certain level of "goodness" that who comes out on top may depend on only one or two mistakes made in the whole match by the loser. Someone at the Semi-Pro level or higher--when they are on--may not miss a ball the whole match (unless they had a good safety played against them or do not have an open pocket to shoot at).

A good player will be able to consistency make the whole realm of shots--not just with center ball--but also using all varieties of english. A good player will know with certainty where the cue ball will be headed after contacting the object ball, or a rail, which will enable them to break up clusters at will--and allow them to keep their run going.

Ultimately, I think that I've ended up measuring what a "really good" player is against the best players that I've had the opportunity to play. A normal "good shooter" will have NO CHANCE against the top 20-50 players in the area or city (which will more than likely be found at the pool halls and not necessarily at the bars).

Wow, kind-of a long rambling answer--but I guess that sums up my thoughts. :p
