In-Stroke Case question

I just bought a cowboy 2x4 off of eBay and it seems short. I put my Starkey in with the long wood pin and couldn't close it. Okay no surprise there it's an unusual cue. Then I put in my Klein sneaky with a radial pin and the top won't latch. Next I drop in my Falcon with the 5/16 x 14 and it won't latch with the joint protector on, with it off it does. I'm just wondering if this is common with some of the InStrokes, maybe older ones? I've got an older InStroke 3x5 and it swallows all of my cues with ease. The 2x4 also doesn't have a pouch that's long enough to hold my jump butt, but that's okay, usually just gets me in trouble anyway;)
 
It's pretty common in the older cases. I think, because 58" is the length of a standard cue, Other dementions were not incorporated into the design; I.E Radial Pin, JP's and so on. Instead of producing the same case in two different lengths, They opted for the Longer product.
The cue, Ither short or long, Will fit in a longer case. I believe that 32"(Correct length?) has now become a universal standard in length, allowing for adaptions.

What are you going to do with the case?

I've had no similar problems. I have two instroke cases. The 2/3 I carry around to bars holds my bar cue, a falcon SP, with joint protectors and a break stick with a couple inches clearance. My 3/7 holds my 58" Josey w/joint protectors and a Jack Hammer break/jump stick with a lot of room to spare. I've had the 2/3 a couple years, the 3/7 a few months. I got them new.
 
Methodman is correct, the older Instrokes are short. My Paul Mottey just fit in my buffalo 2x4 and it was a standard 58in cue. I've since sold that case and bought a newer buffalo and my 59in cues fit in with plenty of extra space. You may want to put that bad boy for sale up on this forum or back up on ebay and get yourself a newer one.

JB can give you the correct dates on when they went to the longer version.
 
Y'all can thank Danny Janes for the size of older Instrokes. :-) When I started building cases I built them to fit my Joss that I was playing with at the time. Later I made the cases longer so that they would fit up to 31.5inches.

Sorry, I was 21 and only thinking of myself back then. Who knew the world would go to Radial Pins and longer joint protectors. :-)
 
I'm sure you've thought of this already, but did you check to see if there was anything wedged in the tubes? It sounds like maybe the older cases were shorter, but that people have still been able to latch them with some cues. If someone had a shorter cue, and wedged something in there to make it easier to get the cue out, that might be part of the problem? My ex was pretty short, and shot with a 54-55 inch cue and she used to do that. If she'd sold her case, I doubt she would have thought to take that junk out before she shipped it. Just a thought.

Either way, it sounds like it's not going to fit all of your cues in it, so you might be best served by selling :(

I had a feeling this was the case of the matter. Dosen't matter, some of us are still old school, no matter how new school we are.:D
 
Okay, crap:frown: ... thanks everyone for your input. I will check the tubes for obstruction just in case (no pun intended). Anyone looking for a sweet case? It really is in excellent shape and a nice chestnut brown and black. Oh well, maybe you'll see it in the W/FS section soon.
