Induction heater rookie

Okay guys so I just got an induction heater delivered I have a brass insert and a predator bk3 shaft that has a separated insert that I need to extract. It's the carbon fiber joint collar end shaft. Any tips on what I should watch out for when heating the insert I'm worried about damaging the carbon fiber even though I know it's a very versatile material. Any tips would be great before I take this on tonight.

so I know what I would do, as I use an induction heater also....what was your plan of attack?

I have not tried it straight to brass yet, I use an easy out inserted into the insert and heat that up and wait about 45 seconds for the heat to transfer then clamp the easy out in a vice and unscrew

I believe induction heaters can be tricky until one has experience with material type & size, coil geometry, time, heater specs (frequency and power) etc., but it's quite fascinating technology. Perhaps one way to manage the risk is to watch the temperatures closely. To that end there are products that can help, indicating labels and temperature crayons come to mind.

Well I can say the brass reacted well.

This is why I kept a temp gun pointed at the base of the shaft and kept reading. Starting at 100° and just went in 25 to 50° intervals until the insert broke loose that back up slow

Ya, temp gun is a better way to measure.
