Inherited cues

Anyone else keeping or using equipment from prior generations or people that have passed on? I think a piece of equipment someone used while they were alive is as sentimental and important to pass down as anything else, it's not just a cue at this point (or golf club, or a wrench your dad used, whatever), it is history and memory. Humans don't last long, and unless someone has a legacy of children that keep the family line recorded, or some major feat they are remembered for (like the Bill Gates, Edison types), there is not much of us left after 100 years except of the memory others have of us. We are only truly gone when we are no longer remembered.

Over the weekend I had a good friend and pool playing buddy pass away (at age of 48). I was given his pool equipment by his wife, some of which I am raffling off or selling for a fundraiser tournament, but his playing cue and case I am keeping. I also recently purchased a cue from a pool hall owner that is close to passing as well, cancer and just simple old age, I wanted to preserve the memory of him and the pool hall and times my son and I spent there playing in leagues and tournaments together. He had two identical older Predators that I used a few times when I did not bring my cue, and always thought it would be a shame to have them be lost once he was gone.

I got to use the cue last night, happy to say I won with it :)

Thats awesome. Happy your making use of it. Are you saying these are for sale?

Not at all for sale, they will stay with me and later my son and whoever he passes them on to along with my equipment he feels represented my time playing. I was just thinking there must be quite a few of us on here that have cues, etc... from players no longer with us or from someone that is too old to use them and it's good to share such things.

Nice looking cues. If you lose with a Michael Webb cue, it’s your fault.

That is actually a bit of a sad thing that it is a Webb, he is pretty close to us and has known me and my son for years, almost literally the month my son started playing pool 14 years ago he met him, but we never got one of his cues. I asked him recently if he would make us one since I got some extra play money, but he is mostly done with making new cues and declined. One of the regrets I have had in pool is not getting a cue from him, and now we have one but it's a bittersweet occurrence with how we ended up with it. It's like that story where a man wishes he had a million dollars, his wife dies in an accident and the insurance company pays him a million.

Absolutely, It's a wonderful thing when we can make use of cues from those passed away and loved ones. Especially if it was a friend. I know I'd feel like he/she was playing with me and It would improve my concentration on every game. Love it.

I just noticed your profile, you are from MA, I am having a fundraiser for him on Dec 3rd at the Green Room in Uxbridge. 12 pm open, going for a 1 pm start.

I will definitely be there! I get out of work at 445 on Saturdays. Green room is awesome. Picked a good place, lots of pool enthusiasts.

someone i got to know well in the last few years via pool just passed on.
when he found out he did not have alot of time left
he told me he was giving me his cue since his kids did not know what to do with it.
his only request was if i sold it to give the money to charity.
i cried when he told me his plan.
REST IN PEACE MY FRIEND..........🙏🙏🙏

Fortunately, I know that my two sons will both appreciate and cherish the cues that I do end up leaving behind- I know that my most favorite cues will never be sold off by them- we have a few cues in our family acquired from the families of deceased pool players and we have not sold them off out of respect for the players who loved this game as we do.

One of my most memorable moments as a cue collector was having the opportunity to present the current CEO of the Imperial billiard company with a stellar cue from his founding Grandfathers original cue line - he was so appreciative of my presentation and I was so happy to give him the cue.
