Due to circumstances beyond my control, I am not at the Derby. :(

However, I thought I'd initiate a post about who's there in hopes those who are there may provide updates.

Keith talked to Harry Platis last evening who said that Mark Betore (sp) and Jack Cooney are there. Ronnie Allen is there, too. :p

The players' meeting and registration for the tournament was at 10:00 a.m. this morning, Kentucky time. :)

Diana Hoppe will be providing photos and updates daily, too. :D

Keith is talking to Ronnie Allen now by phone. Ronnie said that there are some folks there who are going to be doing a documentary about the Derby. I thought he said HBO, but I could be wrong. This is great! :D

Do we know where and when this Doc. can be seen??

Christ, woman! Don't get your pixies in a knot!

They still have to edit out all the crap and people in the background with their middle fingers up!

Give 'em 6 hours to get releases & other legal crap!

Now, now, now...settle down...I don't think they should edit out the middle fingers...it is a documentry, not BD or IP (or what ever mag it was, LOL.) I think the world needs to see how confident pool players are, that is why the Derby works so well...everyone thinks they are number one and they are proud to show it! :D I wanna see a throw down!

Hold up. You never know how HBO will do a documentary. They could show it in a very negative light if they tried. I would not be surprised if they did. Look at their series "Real Sports". It has stories that show the dark sides of sports that you do not see on major cable networks (i don't say that in a bad way because i think it is the best sports reporting show on tv).

If a documentary was made at Derby City it could VERY EASILY show things that would not put pool in a good light, like all the "after-hours" action and the alcohol and drugs (don't act like some players don't get loaded at the tournament either).

It would be nice if they did a classy one.

Mark and Jack guarantee action--if the match up is right. Wonder where Jack has been honing his game or if he is there to make sure the matchups are right before he and Mark jump in. They are always fun.

When i changed planed in Las Vegas there was Ronnie in line and we came in together and yes there was filming. There is suppose to be some people from HBO and also this individual film producer who was on our plane. He filmed some stuff of Ronnie and I getting off the plane, going through the airport and getting luggage just for possibly introductory stuff not necessarily to use and he is I think still selling his ideas to some networks. There is a lot of specualtion in the air and people seem to want to get a sense of reality like poker which has swept the nation. The major problem I see however is the constant hustling in pool where poker is not a hustle in that everyone has a chance. I see it here at the Derby , Everyone hustling, everywhere. And then the argument and fights. The good just seems to be outnumbered. Don't know if it will ever change. There still is the possibility though for some real t.v. on both sides if they can figure out how. Put the woofing on T.V. and that will get a lot of laughs and put on the characters with the great personallities. There are plenty of them.

Mark Betore

Hey JAM, Mark was with me when I trapped the kid at the pool room to go bowling, getting 5/2 on the money and 10 pins a game. Ask Keith to mention it to Mark if he gets to talk to him. Ahh, the good ole days :D Peace, John.
