Hi there!

I was lucky enough to purchase a cue directly from Joe at his place in Chatsworth. This was years ago, early to mid 90's, I think.' At the time I didn't really ask questions about it. 😬

I'm hoping to.find someone knowledgeable that can tell me more about it, and possibly put a value on it.

There was a thread 10-11 yrs. ago asking this same question that never got answered.
He’s known more for pool accessories than his cue making. I’m pretty sure you’re asking
here because you couldn’t locate any historical sale info to form your own value estimate.
I tried & came up empty other than an old Az thread that failed to produce any information.

Joe never got much respect for his cues. IMHO that is a 400-800 dollar cue if you can find the right buyer. I have one of the most expensive Porper cues made, and have had 2 others. The other 2 were sub $ 1000 dollar cues.

Joe

All of Mr. Porpers cues were made in house in Chatsworth. Joe had X amount of models that he did and replaced them as they sold. To bad Thomas Wayne isn't a member here anymore, he was very good friends with Joe. I saw his cues when I use to visit him but I never knew his prices.

Joe's cues were pretty expensive but dang they were gorgeous! He and his wife were both just really good people too. Super nice!

HUH???? surely you're joking.

You're exactly right. Porpers cues were all custom so it's tough to try and put a value on it.

I remember there was a $1200 wholesale tag on it at the time though. I loved it but couldn't afford it so he gave it to me for a smoking deal complete with 2 shafts and a case. I still have the case too, lol.

Thanks for the reply!

I agree this is worth about 800 maybe more. I had a porper about 4 years ago less fancy 4 point that sold for 650. Floating points can be highly sought after and this one is done very well.

They were a set of basic models, not really custom.

Unfortunately, he was of an era that did not age well, has a difficult pin to fit shafts to, and doesn't have a big name.

It is worth more to you than anyone else, and that's ok, but you won't be retiring off of it

I'm actually not looking to sell it. IMO, it can't be replaced.

I'm interested in knowing more about it, like what is the black & white inlay made from, what is the light wood etc.

The white material looks like ivory, the black is probably ebony, the main wood is maple

I would need to have it in hand to confirm exactly, but your photos are pretty good
