inside, the game

had an interesting experience practicing tonight
I often hit with loads of english, mostly because I enjoy it, but also because I'm not very good
for example, I get out of line, and if I can't use gearing english, I'll hit with much inside to hold the cb up, usually using one rail
(sometimes of course, this isn't possible, but that's another story)

anyway I'm playing, and I miss a shot using inside, but this shot is different- I'm trying to get position using multiple rails
I missed it badly. so, I set it up again, and missed it again. and again. and finally, I realized, I'm just not hitting the ob full enough
naturally, I understand gearing english much better than using inside. I've heard this is common, but regardless, it's me.
holding the cb up with inside where I'm just off-angle a bit is usually easy enough
but shooting an ob with more angle, maybe over distance, maybe with speed, has not been intuitive to me

tonight tho, I really tried to break it down
after I realized I wasn't hitting the ob full enough, I changed things up
started aiming fuller, and not only was I making wayy more of those shots with inside
but all my other shots were going in as well! and with relative ease..
tho just one ingredient added to the pot, it felt as if the dish was now ready to eat
of course this all happened after I'd already beat my brains out and was about to leave for the night
I'm of course curious to go back tmmw and see how much of all this sticks, and how
but in the moment at least, I thought it was kind of neat, and figured I'd share
pool is (still) a helluva game.

Famous last words,
"I just figured out what I was doing wrong".
Then next day it doesn't work anymore.

Nothing surprising here in my opinion. Sounds like you weren’t compensating enough in your aiming process for cue ball deflection, if you were consistently over cutting your sharper cut shots when using what sounds like a good bit of inside spin.

Inside with BHE:
med or softer hits, aim at the contact point
harder hits to run the ball around the table, aim as if you're placing the english on the object ball. IOW the same english point.
Both these approaches require adjustment per amount of english, distance, speed, the linearity of your stroke, bridge length etc. but not so much you can't find the zones.

just a general observation/sentiment: I'm just not a big fan of using english for anything other than position purposes.
