Hey all,
Would like to show something I've been kind of keeping private for some time while I watch how things work out. I have developed a pro pool rating system as part of my site, https://www.insidesp.in/
Think of it *like* fargo but dont get too attached to what FargoRating a player has vs what they are in my system. You may ask yourself, why dont you just use FargoRate? Well they have very strict usage policies on their ratings so I didnt want to get into a legal battle in the midst of the site gaining traction.
A few things to keep in mind:
1. This system is based on PRO TOURNAMENTS MATCHES ONLY. What do we consider PRO TOURNAMENTS? Well how would you define a pro tournament, its not easy. But the way we define it is there are more than a certain number of pro level players in each event. And what is a PRO LEVEL player you might ask? lol...more on that later. We currently dont bring in things like snooker or heyball. But will soon.
2. This system is completely transparent and based on all PRO TOURNAMENT results available online. We don't count money matches, league matches, etc. By transparent I mean you can see every single match of all of our official players and how each match effected their rating.
3. This system is DISCIPLINE centric. Meaning you can have a completely different rating in 8-ball than you do in 9-ball. There is also an overall blended rating that combines all your ratings across all disciplines. At the moment we only really track the major disciplines. 8,9,10, 1 pocket, banks, straight pool.
4. This system is heavily weighted towards more recent matches. More recent matches mean a lot more than 1 year or 2 year old matches. This is why you see Fedor currently ranked 13th in 9-ball. He has been quiet in the game of 9-ball lately and when he has played he hasn't played well.
5. This system weighs longer races heavier than shorter races. Obviously there is a lot of variance in a short race so they get weighted less.
6. You can actually generate a report on a players rating and it can walk you through the history of their matches explaining why their rating did or didnt change and why it changed as much as it did.
7. So what is a PRO PLAYER? It's up for debate, but we chose to go with winnings over the last 10 years. If its over a certain amount then you are a pro.
8. Since we can rate players by discipline we thought it might be fun to rate them by tour as well. No surprise, Joshua Filler leads almost every major category.
9. Given all that, we also have built a Fantasy Pool section where you can draft players based on a budget for certain events. Assuming we can get the player list far enough in advance, and the dollar amount values for each player are calculated based on their rating in the discipline of the event. More to come later on that feature.
Anyway, let me know your feedback. I know I am going to get a bunch of "LOL this guy is rated higher than this guy?!?" but before you say that compare their histories. The same logic applies to all players.
