Insight on how pros (Earl specifically) apply english?

I'm just curious if anyone can offer any insight on how Earl or other pros apply english, e.g. I heard Buddy Hall uses some method he calls "tuck and roll".

It seems like Earl takes straight practice strokes and then right before he shoots he applies it somehow by cocking his wrist to the side. Earl's by far one of my favorite players, and his style eludes me. Feel free to share your thoughts anyone

I'm no pro, but I THINK they are hitting the ball outside of the center, making it spin whichever way they choose.

it doesn't what the pros use...........find out the types of ways to apply english and test them out, work with them..........find out for yourself which one is geared better for YOU as a PLAYER..........its not I'm going to use what Earl uses b/c thats what Earl does.........

Buddy, Effren, Earl and many of us on here including myself have not found any english delivery system, aiming method, fandangled technique that instantly gives us all the things we were lacking and these systems vary widely from player to player.......

just the same as "how earl does it".............earl has many things mechanically incorrect in his stroke..........one of them being is that his wrist is not straight, so when he delivers he twists the grip hand back in to get the cue stick in line with how his body is aligned into the shot..............if earl didn't twist the wrist back in line then he'd never make a ball.......Earl is earl and me, you and everyone else aint Earl.

If you want to be like Earl then be our guest and pantomime him and do everything that Earl does and let us know how that works out for you...........

I know we idolize players and such, we want to shoot just like this or that guy or gal..........but piss on all that YOU, WE need to play like OURSELVES.

We must find on our own what works for US...........but applying things just b/c some top shot does is plain hogwash.

Put it this way if this were baseball talk and you wanted to learn to hit the ball better would you want to mimic say JEFF BAGWELL, who is a notorious BACK STEPPER when he swings........ITS COMICAL that it even worked for him.....the only ball player any of us have ever seen with a Backstep ends up being a top notch hitter..........Bagwell would never teach his batting technique to ANYONE at all, because its preposterous and a miracle he was able to do that and have success.

If you don't believe me then struggle with trying to become everyone else for the next 20, 30 , 40 years:eek:

heres a short list of ways to apply english.........

FRONT HAND ENGLISH
BACK HAND ENGLISH
"Parallel" English (some say this is scientifically does not work, tho it works for some of us lol)

Why do you always come with such great posts?

cuz it wouldn't be the same here...............

Why do you always come with such great posts?

because the place wouldn't be as great if I and others like me didn't.........i got to take a load off the other guys and share it if anything is going to grow or get better in the games future.

I've become known for no BS solid advice on here and I like keeping up what I've earned............and there's always another question etc.......it helps my communication also very much helping me to put real thoughts down and get them to real people and players

That and all the successes I've had over the years came with much help from others, so its just paying it forward.......its no burden I enjoy it.......hell I wish the forum was just a big pool hall where we could all intermix in real time and really learn and spread some good pool gospel.

Suggest you review the videos regarding english at joetucker.net

He talks about combinations of front and backhand spin.

If you work through the vector analysis, it is easy to see that if you are not bridged at the pivot point (and with a low deflection cue you probably aren't), a combination of front and backhand english is needed to minimize squirt. This is what the pros use, although they probably arrived at it by feel rather than science.

Spot on!

GG nailed it!

Learn what works for you, period! I find it funny when so many ask what cues, taper, tip etc. the pros use hoping it will make them play like a pro..

The only thing that is going to get us there is hard work and dedicated practice.. A little talent never hurt no one but talent is overrated IMHO.. Hard work and specific practice is the key..
