Can you trim the side of the tip with a razor knife??
Also , can you trim / shape the tip with a single-edge razor blade???
I put the crossfeed right in front of the tip, and rest a single edge utility blade on it, and shape the tip that way"
Will that also work on an elkmaster??
THANK YOu, In Advance!
I appreciate everyone's time/input to my questions

The answer to your questions is yes. I prefer to use the big extra heavy duty OLFA HB utility blades...extemely sharp & work better than anything I've tried. Slightly wetting the tip will help a lot also for shaping & trimming.

Should I wet the tip with a little water??
ALSO < In your experience / opinion...
Will a tip end up being firmer/harder when the machine is going faster???
Locally a cue repairer had a small belt-drive lathe, that He installed tips with, that turned really fast,
And it seemed that all the tips he installed were firmer/harder...
He never trimmed the tips with a blade though, Always used a flat file and a 1/2 round sanding tool"
thanks
BTW,
I really like your cues, each one I have seen looks great"

i wet elkmaster and sniper. leather cuts easier. i dont wet moori everest lepro triangle. utility blade is the best way just takes practice. the reason is bc they stay sharpe when they get dull toss it and get a new one. i go top speed but dont know if you NEED too.

Very sharp blades are the key to installing soft tips like elk masters. Your method sounds fine.

When trimming the side of the tip with a razor, are you gentleman holding the razor like you do when you crown the tip? or is the razor clamped in a tool holder as if it was a cutting bit?

I use one to crown the tip, but have not been using one to trim the sides.

I have mine in a utility knife for trimming down the sides and loose resting on the end of a tool for shaping the end of tip.
