installing triumph tips?

I have tried to install a triumph tip on a cue 4 times!!!...I sanded the fiber pad and installed the same way as i have done 100 times...I used different glues and epoxy with the same results..it falls off!!...can you help??..what type of glue do you use?...Thanks, Joe

is this your cue? if it is, I would consider not using the fibre pad. I, personally, don't agree with the purpose of a fibre pad.
 
I use a fibre pad alot. I use pro-bond. make sure to file the pad on both sides.
 
triumph tips come with a fiber pad already on them (for the uninformed...),,I use Devcon two ton,,sand the ferrule and pad, check for a good fit,,,glue and clamp,,allow to set 24 hours,,,cut to shape downwards (not upwards),,,use 150 grit sandpaper for final sand (coarser sandpaper shreds this type tip),,,enjoy,,,,maybe someone more experienced than I can give you more insight !............jflan

I only have one tip AND ferrule glue, pad or no pad. I use DURO QUICK GEL. I do hundreds of repairs with fiber pads & never have a problem. Sand tip & ferrule FLAT, put the glue on the pad, twist, press for 60 seconds. That's it. The glue should cover, without being too thick...JER

not my cue..I don't like or dislike the fiber pad, i have installed other fiber pads without problems..first time i used a triumph tip..(on a predator shaft).

Get a sharp blade, score the under side of the fiber pad, like makin a chessboard drawing. This will help it stick to whatever glue you're using. But not too deep. The fiber pad in triumph tips appear to be plastic like. which is different from the normal fiber pad... it doesn't stick coz very or no glue is retained under the pad when put on a ferulle

Hey Joe,
I have tried about every glue out there and the one that works on most everything is Loctite Gel in the blue bottle or tube. This may not be sticking also due to the type of ferrule thats on the cue. If its a soft plastic you will need to clamp it up for about ten minutes and let everything get solid before your trim it. Hope this helps.

thanks for all the help..I have went back to the first glue I tried (loctite gell)
because that has not let me down before this...I do cut the ferrule on a lathe, but this time I sanded the ferrull (a little 220) after cutting. I think the ferrule material played a big part in the nonsticking. I also used the brush on loctite glue (thinner than the gell) on both the ferrule and the sanded pad, almost like a primer, than used the gell. thanks, Joe

Exactly. :)

thats what I do. but I also score the ferrule. never have had a problem
 
Make sure you only put the quick gel glue on the pad of the tip and not on the ferrule before pressing the tip on. For some reason if you put glue on both it hurts the bond.
