Instructor Pro Playing history

Is there an easy way to look up the professional playing history of players. Mostly I am curious. I realize some of the best players may never have played in tournaments. In the 70's the money was in hustling and playing tournaments "killed your action" so many great players avoided them. Bert Kinister came out of this era. We know many of the same players, many of whom never played tournaments but were very good. You can tell from his cd's, especially in the beginning, it was all about hustling. The purses are much larger now and it is more about the future of pool and its "legitimizing". He even talks about it becoming an Olympic sport.

Still I would like to look up some of the well known instructors like, Bert Kinister (who did play some tournaments), Tor Lowry (I only found one tournament where he finished 16th or so in the 80s), Jerry Briesath (who mentions "when he used to compete"). All of these people can play good pool and are qualified to teach and have a lot to share. I would just like to see when they were the most active and how they fared in competition.

Many times the best instructor is not also the best player and vice versa. My inteeest is just because I like these people and would like to know more about them.

I was able to find old tournament results but scanning through hundreds of tournaments over a 40 year period looking for names is tedious. I am hoping there is a search by name type index.:)

For European pool players there is the partial record at kozoom.com (under info/players) but they do not have many results for US players.

For US players the best source for recent results is probably the FargoRate database but I don't think individual histories are viewable yet.

There is Charlie Ursitti's compilation but the info is not reduced to a list.

The on-line Accu-Stats newsletter archive http://www.sfbilliards.com/accustats/index.html can also be searched manually.

I think the easiest way to get the info for a particular person is to ask them.

Thanks Bob. I looked through a few of the Accu_Stats and didn't see any of the players I was looking for but did run across Billy Johnson and Ronnie Allen, a couple of great players from my era. Didn't know Billy Johnson played tournaments and, if it is the same person, Billy Johnson was only a playing name, not his real name. Very Cool, thanks.

Wade Crane may have been listed as well.

You are correct. Playing golf with Tiger or basketball with LeBron would be marvelous, but learning golf, basketball or pool doesn't mean you need to have teachers who are top players or even pros. I know some teachers who are amateur players who are also excellent teachers.
