Single elimination pressure is the ultimate test (as is alternate break - counter intuitive to some I realise). Whether this is last 2,4,8,16 or 32 depends on the size and the practicalities of the tournament. Ideally, imo, the single elimination stage should have longer races (even if it’s only one rack) but this is trivial because winning a finals stage do or die match is much bigger than winning when you have a second chance.

The International Open is evolving and evolving well. Let’s see how it goes and if there are any lessons to be learned for 2021.

Bingo. That is why almost all major sports have single elimination in final stages.
Also SE is easier to understand for the common audience than DE. Especially when it comes to whose the next opponent of a player after he lost a match.
Group/ Round robin also more common than DE in initial stage as it is more straightforward
