It's too hard to tell whether the cue ball passed over the edge of an object ball sometimes. It is not too hard to tell that someone is using a jump cue, although it is possible to disguise one.

It's too hard to tell whether the cue ball passed over the edge of an object ball sometimes. It is not too hard to tell that someone is using a jump cue, although it is possible to disguise one.
Under the WPA (world-standardized) rules for 9-Ball, "The standard format is to alternate the break... ."
But Regulation 15, Subsequent Break Shots, says "the tournament management may choose a procedure different from the standard one listed in the Rules. For example, the winner may break or the players may alternate “serves” of three consecutive breaks."
It could be argued from both sides.
Most fans favor the winner break format because they enjoy seeing players run "multi-packs".
But, as your own stats show, 4-5 and 6 packs are relatively uncommon.
I'm curious.
What are the odds of a 4-5 or 6 or more "pack" in 9-Ball?
Yes, no one seems too thrilled when I post about "alternate-break packages" (successive B&R's on one's own break under an alternate-break format).
The odds of packages of 4 or more in 9-Ball? Well, results vary quite a bit depending on the rules, equipment, etc. For a hint at the answer, let's just look at the streamed matches I have tracked in the US Open 9-Ball Championship for the last 7 years combined (2011 through 2017).
Total matches -- 239
Total games -- 4,145
B&R games -- 929
B&R % -- 22.4%
B&R's by size of "package"
- 1 -- 535
2 -- 114
3 -- 35
4 -- 11

6 -- 2
So, that's just 14 packages of 4 or larger in 239 matches -- about once for every 17 matches.
those 2 6's -Were they in the same match- Mika vs Klatt?
Nope. One 6-pack was by Van Boening in his 11-5 win over Hsieh Chia Chen in 2017. Two of those 6 games were 9's on the break, which I include in the B&R count.
The other 6-pack was by Klatt in an 11-10 loss to Appleton in 2011 (no 9's on the break in that one).
The Klatt vs. Immonen match you are remembering was a final-4 winners' side match in 2010. The data for post #44 starts with 2011. But in that 2010 match, Immonen had a 6-pack and a 4-pack and Klatt had a 3-pack -- 13 B&R's in total in the 15 games. Immonen won the match 11-4.
