Introducing New Custom Cue Wraps..."Need Opinions !"

Just thought I would share this with my fellow AZ'rs.... I would like your opinion and feedback on these type of specialty wraps.... basically the designs are colors are unlimited.....

I sent out these two handles to be wrapped and now I'm attaching them to thier respective forearms and finishing them up... the process is impressive and is time consuming but the man who does this, professionally builds fishing poles and does custom wraps out of Maine....

I was fortunate enough to be able to talk with him about this application due to a mutual friends interest in doing something unique as far as a wrap was concerened and this was the first time he ever applied his technique to a billiard cue and was quite pleased... the wraps will be sealed to prevent damage and discoloration....

So I will be offering custom wraps like these for those who are interested... once again, the colors and designs are pretty limitless, and it does take a some time becasue each strand is hand turned not machine and some are 6-7 levels deep.... His work is very impressive !

Let me know what you think !

I will be posting pics of these two cues after completion so it will do better justice to the wraps....

I am not a big fan of either of those two designs but it sure is some awesome work. I have a couple other designs in mind that would make me a fan. That is unique to say the least. Good job.

Altho I'm sure it means well...... Jsut reminds me too much of a Golf wrap......but Imsure it has its perks so I would prolly go 50/50 with this idea....

I read you text first completely before scrolling down to look at the pics, and my first reaction was "Holy Crap!" - in a GOOD way.

I'll bet you could really work the wrap design in well with the rest of the cue design.

I personally would not want to play with a cue that had the wrap sealed, but for a custom design "art" cue, this would be awesome.

Good luck.

it kinda looks like something you would see on a samurai sword..

Pretty cool though, would i do it? NO... unless it was a collectable cue that i wasnt going to shoot with..

Yes, and as a matter of fact this is the the woods as follows:

The black/gold wrap will be attached to an ebony forearm and buttsleeve...

And the other wrap will be attached to a curly maple forearm and buttsleeve...

I've made a few thread art wraps on fishing rods that I've built, and thought about trying one out on the grip of a cheap cue. I just haven't gotten around to it yet. There are some pretty amazing designs that thread art can offer. Here's a couple examples of more intricate ones (not mine btw)-

T-bird & predator wraps

Jack Justis used to do wraps like that. Not sure if he does anymore. He had some beauties in the Blue Book of Pool Cues.

I don't like them. I think they're over the top, but I like the general direction of the wraps; that is, a patterned look (and perhaps texture).

Tiger does the stacked leather wrap, which I think is fantastic. I think if you toned down the design a little, it'd be a winner. A previous poster mentioned it looked like it is something you'd see on a samurai sword, and it may be a direction you could pursue. The handle (tsuka) of a katana is made of a single piece of cloth (tsuka ito), woven to form a pattern down its length. The design is simple, functional, and attractive.

those are some nice foot wraps there!

personally, i'd like a 10-12' line capacity @ 8-12 lbs holding a 1/4 - 1/2 jig.

New wraps

The workmanship is good, but i'm more of a traditional wrap style fan to want a wrap like that on my cue. There may be a lot of people out there who would love a wrap like that on their cue so you may be on to something.....

I think the work is great and very unique. I have to agree with the above though, I wouldn't use one unless it was toned down a little bit. I do think there's a lot of people out there that would like something like this though.

I thought I posted this last night but apparently I never. Brunswick started doing wove silk wraps in 1912. Here is an example.
