Introduction

Hi Bob,
You'll find me here too, but I generally just lurk. I find it much more difficult to keep up with posting here on AZ without a good news reader like Agent. You've got to constantly monitor it to keep up, so I just generally read whatever is sitting there when I look and don't post much.

I still like to monitor rsb and post there, I'm not completely disgusted as you are, I just blow off certain threads.

Steve Ellis. <== Hopes he didn't contribute to your leaving rsb.

Nah, and I'm still monitoring it, but there's just not enough of what I went there for in the first place, discussion of pool. I don't even mind the arguments when it's on topic. It's when a few individuals go into those long threads of name calling, challenges, bullshit, and garbage. It got old and not worth following anymore. I'm glad to see you and a few others over here though. I agree, this takes a little more effort to follow than Usenet.

O.K. Bob...16 guys have been gracious enough to welcome you with open arms and extend out to you, and it seems like you're only doing this because major discord has occured on the homefront and you have no other choice but to come here, based on your follow up posts and initial introduction. Well, hey...either come aboard or go back. I'm not trying to be nasty, but it's like you're going through a divorce and you're heartbroken and don't know what to do. This IS a good forum. There are a number of people here that are on RSB or have been on RSB, but at the same time there are new folks. I feel that it's more of a player's/gamblers forum with guys that really know what they're talking about in the trenches. They've been there, they've done it, and they know what it takes to run racks and win.

If it turns you on that Pat Johnson developed the Johnson jig to measure deflection, which is in total opposition to everything else that's been done out there to measure it and the readings are way off from one to the other, and also which is meaningless when you know how to deal with it and shoot to begin with, then keep posting there. Nothing says that you have to have one place to hang your hat. Newsgroups and forums are cyclical in nature.
There will be ups and downs, flame wars, great posts and bad posts on all of them. So, bring your ebony Joss over here and start posting about anything other than RSB. Believe it or not, I think in a short period of time RSB be on the upswing again with some new faces and action. But it's always good here too.

To a great extent, you're absolutely correct. I'm shopping for a new place to hang out. However, I've also simply replied to posts since my initial "introduction" post was made. I think I'm going to take a break from the newsgroups for awhile. Thanks for the courtesy extended by everyone over here, and I'll probably lurk once in awhile, but trying to participate in a serious pool forum has become very frustrating. Perhaps it's the game I should give up.

Now, there's a thought! Maybe it's not the newsgroups concerning pool that is frustrating me. Perhaps it's the state of the game/sport itself. Maybe I'm giving up the wrong thing! I'll give it some thought before I try out a new "home" again. Thanks again everyone, you have been very courteous indeed.

Hey Bob,
RSB has been through alot of changes in the last few years. This
forum is much more civil and there are some pretty knowledgeable
folks on here. Check out the cue maker forum and the cue forum to see
some very nice cues. Theres Pros to ask questions to as well.
Its a little different from RSB but more laid back. I wish Ron Shepard and
a couple others might swing over.
Anything been happening with the pool scene in Denver? Is TableStakes
still around? Anything new with Ernie Martinez? Who is playing the
best up there now?
When I was there it was Medina and Piazza. I think Tollefson plays
jam up as well.
welcome to a civil nation

Hi Bob,

I think you'll find that I am treated and treat others quite differently here than on RSB.

Welcome.

Frank, I really am glad to see some familiar names over here. The pool scene in Denver is surprisingly healthy. I think Danny M. moved to, and spends more time in Vegas, however, I understand he has a very large extended family here, so he keeps showing up. Tony P. and Scott are both still here, as is Ernie. There are some personal issues with some that I wouldn't want to mention on a newsgroup, even though some have been discussed elsewhere. Cheyenne Pete is still around, however, he owns a room up in Cheyenne now, so I think he stays closer to home. John Barton was about the best local player I ever saw, but he relocated to Arkansas! (Said that for John's benefit, see below!). You can kind of check up on our local pool scene by accessing www.cuetimes.com. It's kind of like our own little version of what AZBilliards used to be to Phoenix before it went national.

Family Fun Center is still going, though it's now called Paradise Billiards. Great older room! Shakespeare's and Wynkoop Brewery are both still downtown, and both nice rooms. What was McChesney's is now Brooklyn Billiards, owned by the guy that used to own Billiards Institute on West Colfax. I heard he was offered a subsantial amount for his old location. BI is now closed, and I think that corner is being redeveloped. Brooklyn's seems to be doing very well. I've been in there a few times, and it's usually pretty full. They have a huge parking lot. I was going to stop in there a couple Sunday's ago, but there was no place to park within a block! I travel quite a bit, so I don't get around the local scene as much as I'd like to, and never get to the rooms in the South part of the metro, or down to the Springs anymore. Seems that most of my table time is here at home, or when I get a chance play in other cities.

shhhh, let's not tell anyone we're over here!

BTW, in my reply to Frank's inquiry about Denver, I should have said "see above." I have to get used to this format still! ;>)

Bob, don't listen to this controlling malcontent. Post about RSB all you want.

Well...here we go. You won't have to worry about posting about RSB and all of their crap. With cumwads like Skeezicks starting shit, it'll move here in no time flat and I'll be more than happy to oblige any macho fantasies that he might have.

Ahhhhh! Now this is feeling more like home! ;>)
