IPT abysmal television coverage.

You guys have to take into account the IPT's main objective of giving pool a "shot in the arm". They are trying to (and from what I can gather, succeeding at) impressing the general public, not necessarily everyone who is already into pool. It's a good thing. My opinion, anyway.

retracting my previous post

After reading the original thread, then posting last night, I then read the rest of the posts. I also took the time to rethink what I saw before I dozed off.

The theme of this thread took a very good turn talking about what is KT's objective as far as marketing the IPT. I agree that he must bring in the general audience and commercial advertisement by big name sponsors.

With this said, the hustler image has hurt our sport for decades and I do not think it will be attractive for parents to hear about it. These are professional athletes just like any sport, you just don't hear about the big money games by Tiger, Trevino or Fuzzy; nor advertise it to the general public.

This week Wie is trying to qualify for the PGA US Open and what you hear from the men (some diplomatically i will admit) is praise for her skill and efforts.

Lastly, you sure don't hear the president of Nissan commentating (in the box) about the tournament.

Money is being spent in a big way, and we all thank KT for this business venture. We all want it to succeed, but we might be watching the start of something big that I am wrong about or we may be seeing the beginning of the end.

I did thoroughly enjoy reading all of the posts. I also enjoyed my nap during the boroadcast, but thanks to you I now understand what KT is doing.

I just hope he knows what that is when all is said and done. I personally would not want to tick off one single person or player in a pool room, let alone an entire sport.

A prediction

Interesting, the naysayers and the soothsayers are out in force, which is good. The more controversy pool on tv gets, the more likely people are going to watch it for themselves and take a position.

I'm going to venture a guess that the production will exceed 0.35 viewership, substantially more than the 0.25 used to measure if a production is moderately successful at being watched. The numbers on the ratings will be the true measure of the success of the IPT drive.

It will also be a clear unequivocal signal to whether the naysayers or soothsayers are right. I also predict the naysayers will still jabber on (quickly switching focus areas if they are proved wrong), despite what they commit to now.

I watched it 3 times so far and the more I watched it the better I liked it. You have to understand that there was an awful lot going on during that week in Orlando. Each and every match, and what, they had 165 matches, was a primo match with star players. So many matches to watch - so few eyes. And they went on 12 hours a day.

Somehow, Kt will have to show the GLI and explain that to the TV audiance. So that he can show where a person stands going into a match and that it is important to limit how many games his opponent wins if he wants to advance to the next round.

And also they could mention how much money the player will receive if he advances. But I imagine that will be stressed in the finals where the big money is.
