No matter what your feelings about the IPT are, you have got to admit that once we are through the first round and down to the last 120 players its going to be one of the stongest fields in the history of the game. Add to that the venue, the money at stake and the fabulous round robin format is this the greatest tournament in the history of the game?

Sadly I completely missed the Tokyo event so I can't really compare but this seems to me to be the only other contender apart from the older events which I certainly can't comment on!

OK maybe the 128 players at the WPC are a better quality field, but taking everything into account whoever wins this event has a serious claim to being called the greatest champion in the history of pool!

This will be a great tournament. It has a FANTASTIC field and the best money pool has seen. In my opinion, it still won't be the best title to hold in pool. Just as in other sports, there are a couple of MAJOR titles, such as the U.S. OPEN and WPA titles. I'm hoping this keeps going in the right direction and Kevin makes a ton of money off this whole tour. Maybe then we'll have a tour that will last and the players from all over the world will make enough money to come show their stuff. Sam

I respectfully disagree. This will be the best title to hold not only because of the talent level of the 200 person field, but mostly due to the tournament format.

The round robin format will definitely take most of the fluke matches (or an off match or two by Efren) out of the equation. This format will also test each player's physical stamina, something that has never been tested before in any previous tournament.

Yup, KT has found the formula to determine a true champion. This is surely the title to hold.

The broadcast starts in 4.5 hours. Can't wait!

I mean there is a bbq being organized thru one of the dutch forums where they're gonna watch IPT after eating. When did you last organize a bbq in honour of a pool tournament? I don't mean at the location of the pool tournament obviously. This stuff is huge.
Greatest ever? No doubt.

All I was saying, is if you took away the amount of money on the line, and was looking at just the prestige of the title, the U.S. Open is still the one I think most players want to have. That's just my opinion.
I look for that to change if this progresses like I think it will.

I agree the format is much better and the players will have perform at a top level all day long to advance. It will eliminate a lot of the LUCK factor. It will also make the players try to beat their opponent as bad as possible by using lost games as part of the advancement criteria.. Sam

I wonder how security would react, if pool fans started tailgating parties at major events. Pool related tailgating, may just catch on and could become a chronic problem. ;)

Everything considered

The players, the format, the location, the venue, the money, and the first class treatment of the players are being afforded, I would say it is the Greatest Ever.

This is, as they say, The Big Kahuna of Pool

The players will experience some celebrity status, and perhaps offers they never would have had. Maybe some security also. To me, it is saying Pool is a professional sport, not just a game.
