IPT voting = marketing strategy?

Sorry if this has been mentioned before. If it has I have not seen it.

It seems to me that one thing the IPT is doing is trying to generate interest and traffic to their web site to attract potential sponsors. And lead them to believe that there is still interest in the IPT.

Also according to what I have been told is that advertisers on the web site pay according to the amount of traffic.

Only KT really knows for sure what the plan is but it is not outside the realm of possibilities that he is only trying to recoup his past losses and has no intention of reviving a real tour.

I am in no way shape or form a supporter of KT or the IPT so please do try and make me out to be one.

Anyone who underestimates KT is doing himself a grave miservice.

I would stick my neck out and say that there will never again be an IPT tour. If KT believes that he has found a way to make a profit, there can possibly be a tournament, or a match up, but never again an actual tour as it was originally planned.

Right now I don't believe that the IPT's overhead is too high; an office, website, and a few employees. I would imagine that, until he figures out exactly how to maximize his return on investment, including possibly selling the entire operation, he probably continues to turn a dime selling his pay for views, and other products.

I'd also figure that all names, and contact info, from anyone that uses the IPT site, gets both sold to several marketing companies and also used by his Natural Cures and other enterprises.

So what you suspect may, very well, be 100% correct.

Of course the voting procedures and the very existence of challenge matches are marketing strategies. If they aren't then IPT have very serious management problems.

What the exact nature of the overall marketing strategy is and what the short, medium and long term objectives of this marketing strategy are and exactly how the voting procedures and the challenge matches fit into that overall strategy can be speculated about by anyone but will no doubt unfold in due course. Presently however it's really nobody's business but the owners of IPT. Most players and fans seem past caring anyway.

The mere existence of an overall marketing strategy which includes public voting and challenge matches doesn't in itself make IPT good guys or bad guys.

You made some very good points. I missed the obvious reason for increased web site traffic, to fleece an unsuspecting potential buyer of the IPT, if there is such a fool.

As much as we all distrust and share varying degrees of disdain towards KT, I feel that it is a mistake to underestimate the man. Lacking the appropriate business savvy I could be wrong on this but I think that if, and that is big if, KT truly had his heart set on making an abbreviated version of the IPT succeed he could pull it off.

I guess we will all have to just wait and see.
