IPT -- What will or has it done for you?

Most of us here have at sometime faced the music that we are not Pros and will not be Pros. The IPT is allowing maybe 150 -200 of the worlds best to play pool for a living.
That leaves the rest of the millions of players in the same boat as we were in before but now we have (hopefully) a poll TV show and
more top events to attend.

My question is to see how the IPT has affected people here on AZ or how they hope it will.

What has it done for you?
What do you hope it does for you?
How do you feel it will change the average players "pool world" or will it?

Do other Pro sports and tours change the average joes within its
community?
 
So far, it allowed me (while in Atlanta due to family issues) to attend my first 'real' pool tournament, and watch hours and hours of amazing pool.

Will it do more for me in the future? *shrug* Who knows.
 
If I had a wish list, I would hope the IPT turns pool into what WSOP did for poker. A whole bunch of wannabe's trying to get their game on. Expanding leagues and seeing more pool halls and so forth. I would love to see pool on prime time at the bars and watching people really getting into it.*I'm not holding my breath yet, but I am still hoping this dream comes true.*
 
I figured that the IPT would mena different things to different people.
Some on here might even set goals and try and qualify. Others it might actually dishearten them enough to leave pool or not take it so serious.

I am in the middle somewhat. Good pool excites me and I am glad to see the deserving players have something to look forward to. I dont have delusions of making it and have not been totally turned away from pool.
I will say that its tough being in the pool world knowing that there are so many players that are equal or better in a sport where usually the cream
rises to the top.
IMO league play should increase with brand new players and with veteran pool players looking for a place to compete.
I wish there were easier ways to gauge peoples play so that more players in different skill levels could actually compete to win. In most tourneys I
think the majority are participating knowing their fate and are really playing to test themselves and to support the sport.
Maybe in the future there will be mini tours that will offer a place where
the average and even above average bangers can compete.
Even looking at the BCA and other amatuer open events there are always
a group of players that are above the rest. In a 700 person field there
might be 40 that can win. So will be upset and maybe even upset twice but in most the cream will always rise. Not only with the best winning it but those top guys taking most of the money spots.
In atlanta back in the early to mid 90s there were B and C level events that ran often. They were popular and I always felt like it gave the in between (between the average banger and the shortstop) a place to compete and have a good chance to cash.

One of the most important things to me is that hopefully it will give pool and we pool players a little more respect to the average population.
Right now we are just a rough bunch that plays a no talent game. To the average population womens pool is far better and more respected than mens. Hopefully that will change with the top men being so good
at the game.
 
The IPT has given me countless hours of entertainment both reading, and participating in, Internet forum flame wars. ;)

Well if no one else did I can say that I LOL'd at the JIHAD comment you had! :p

Do you think you will sit down and make an honest attempt at making the big time. I am sure that even for very good pool players like yourself it would involve a commitment and a "sitdown" with yourself.

I think it's way too early to start asking what the IPT has done for anyone. The plan is to make pool as big as poker. This will take some time, and if pool does blow up like poker did, this will benefit all poolplayers who like to play in tournaments, leagues, or gamble. Imagine that weekly tournament that usually gets 20 players starts getting 80 players, and pays out 16 spots. Imagine instead of a $100 first prize, there is a $1,000 first prize on a weekly basis, maybe even more. Imagine that "big" added money tournament that comes once a year gets $100,000 added instead of $2,000. These are just hopes and dreams, but it could be very possible if the IPT succeeds.

are you nuts dude....leave pool or not take it serious when its about to be more serious than its ever been...lmao....ive been around pool my entire life or close to it and i still suck, and im gonna watch, im just jealous i aint good enough to get some of that IPT cheese

It has done nothing FOR me so far. The only way it has effected me at all is to cause one of my favorite rooms to replace their Simonis because they're hosting a qualifier this weekend. The shame, the shame.

The can hope it will do 2 things for me:
1. get pool on tv more
2. cause pool's popularity to increase, helping to keep poolrooms open so that bar pool isn't all we have.

I don't think it will effect the average pool player's world at all except to possibly keep more pool rooms open.
 
So far what is has done for me is:

1. Made me excited about seeing pool on television in such a way.
2. Made me excited thinking about all the new matches that are going to be available on DVD such as the entire King of hill Tournament.
3. Taken 110 dollars of my money and has not shipped the 2 DVDs I ordered last month as there was a production glitch in the original batch and they are waiting for the new batch to arrive.

I can only hope it can do what TCOM did what 20 years ago? I was lucky enough to be playing when the last boom hit, and the room picture in my avatar was a mecca...

I met my wife of 12 years at a new room exhibition featuring Willie Mosconi...
I made many new friends going to those new rooms, and were still friends...
I learned how to play, and gamble at 14.1, 1pocket, 9ball...
I strengthened an absolute life long passion for billiards...
I felt I was part of something great, not an obscure backroom hobby...

If the IPT can bring more of that back to pool again, I'm in!

Things it might do, but hasn't done yet:

1. Make 8-Ball more popular among A and B players, which is good for me since I like 8-Ball.

2. Move everyone up a level. By this I mean that IPT players will likely play less in the regional tours like the Joss tour. So those might become a bit more winnable for the shortstops, making them play less often in the next lower level of tournaments, which will start going to the A players. That might make the A players show up less frequently in the weekly tournaments, opening those up to a wider field... (at some point, this progression is supposed to culminate with me winning tournaments).

3. Bring a lot of fish into the pool halls.

I concur.

I would like to add that I hope the IPT spawns a host of feeder tours and tournaments where players like myself can make decent money while trying to get in the larger events.
