I met Iris Ranola Monday night at Kolby's. She was in there practicing a little for the AWBT Tounrnament this weekend. I only talked to her for a few minutes but she was very nice and easy to talk to. She is going to be a force to be reckoned with in the future of the WPBA. She is much shorter than I though she would be but don't let that fool you. She is a player for sure!!! Just thought I would share my little experience with you all.

Bval,
I had the honor of meeting her at Comet a few months ago and your analysis of her is right on!
She is a player, and will be a name to contend with for quite a while. Right after she left the NJ/NY area she went to Oklahoma and knocked off Allison, and then I think she made the finals.

Yeah she came in 2nd at the US Open. It is always weird when you see someone on TV and then you walk into the pool hall and see them. She said she moved to Avondale, AZ now.

She was also in Tucson's event about a month ago. She won that one also. By the looks of all the people with her she gets plenty of family support. Glad to see she is living in Arizona, not good news for the women in the state though. They will have to fight for 2nd place in tourneys now, or step it up a notch or 2.

She has to go back to the Phillipines at the end of November because of Visa issues. I think she has to stay there for 6 months and then she can come back.

There might be something on youtube. She was just on TV last week a couple of times when they aired the Women's US Open on ESPN.

Call Lenny, I can see it now, Queen of the Eight's:grin:

Iris is awesome, not only as a pool player, but as a person. The last time I talked to her she had mentioned to me that she was going to move to Phoenix? She was recently on ESPN playing the semi-finals of the US Open. I'm sure they will replay it again:smile: .

8's?

Not sure I get this one. Iris would be rated higher than a 8. Probably a 10 in Arizona.

I think she will be the first female 10 rated player in Arizona.

I had never heard of her before last night when I played her in the first round of a Tuesday night open at Kolbys.

She beat me 5-3...She moves the CB very very well...at least for the match we played......From the first rack I could definatly see that I was playing a pro quality player.

She played some really good safes on me...I had to earn all three of the games I won.

Through the whole match I was asking myself...Why have I not heard of this girl before????

You just havent been looking-She has been the subject of a few threads and even won the BCA Open ladies division and numerous regional events.

She may be the best 'unknown' in the country right now. Bora Jeung had that honor until she went back to Korea just recently. She beat Iris two sets gambling fairly easily but it was on 'her' table. Actually i think they are about even.
