Irish linen

I have a wrapless, linen and leather wrap in my case most times. Central Texas is humid so I like having options. Especially since one of the halls I play league in doesn't seem to turn the AC on until a few hours before league.

I am in the process of buying a cue with Cortland, but I haven't gotten to shoot with it much. I have ~12 cues that have linen wraps and I firmly believe there are different qualities of contemporary linen wrap as well as different application processes. I like a couple, but also absolutely hate a couple as well.

I generally like leather. My prior favorite was lizard belly, but I got a cue with a kangaroo wrap recently and I absolutely love that wrap. I'll have one with EE in a few months and may revise my opinion.

Linen wraps easily look the coolest.

Come to think of it, I don't remember seeing one out of all the pro pool I've been watching recently, I see just wrapless or leather wraps.

Which makes sense, because Predator and Cuetec don't have any linen wrap options on their higher end cues.

I don’t want to bear an old drum but the Irish linen selection today has a larger variety but nonetheless still very inferior to any of the Cutyhunk fishing lines of yesteryear. Most of my cues have Cortland linen wraps and only 3 do not. One of the 3 has a contemporary linen wrap, my original Palmer. No other way to describe it other than that wrap is crap but it was the best linen wrap I could find since Cortland is so scarce. So for my other 2 cues I reluctantly decided to use leather wraps instead since I couldn’t find any Cortland before my cues were completed being built. I am more of a fan of Cortland Linen, or any Cuttyhunk fishing line that’s no longer made. Blue Mountain was the closest substitute I ever located and I wish Irish linen wraps were better quality than what’s available today which is very disappointing.

I have found that there are some really nice serving materials which are used on crossbow and bow strings that is really nice.
They come in several different materials and diameters. And most if it is pretty much indestructible.

Never liked it. Used cork for a while back in the 70’s, then switched to leather and never looked back. It’s all what you like.
