Ironing a wrap?

Is this ok to do as a temporary fix for a frayed linen wrap? Someone said this in a previous post, but has anyone else done this?

get a shot glass(or something similiarly curved) and run it up and down the wrap to burnish it. you might also want to use some wax paper to smooth it down in your hand.

I used to do that to an old Palmer I still have. Fortunately, the butt is still straight.

Stop doing this and take it to a professional cue repair person to smooth your wrap out on a lathe.

Learn from this. I am that bad thing that happens to cues/tips/whatever.

yep...try a white "UNSCENTED" candle.
Rub it up and down on the wrap and then grab some wax paper and stroke it while keeping a fairly firm grip on it. I'll not guarantee this will work...but it's worked for me in the past.
 
I have used a bounce dryer sheet to clean then a shot glass to smooth. it worked for me. just my .02 worth
 

Whatever you do, disregard any advise that includes using wax paper on your wrap! The wax attracts and traps chalk dust and grime. It makes the wrap impossible to clean properly. It may be a quick fix, but you're setting a trap for yourself down the line and will have to have it rewrapped to make it right.

Some people can only afford a "quick fix" and can't just go get it rewrapped whenever they want. I'm not neccissarily one of them since I'm friends with a cue maker...but that's neither here nor there.
 
It's not a matter of affording it, it's being without a cue while it's being re-wrapped. Nobody around here does wraps, so I'd have to send it off. It's actually my wife's cue. Maybe I'll have it wrapped in Vegas.
