I was told once that when your cloth gets some wear to it you can iron it to make it play faster.

Anybody ever heard of this?

I'm not a mechanic. I've heard it, no idea if it's true. I do know that the cap of woolite in a bucket of warm water trick does wonders for cloth.

Vacuum first. Use microfiber towels that are well wrung out. It gets grime and chalk out of the cloth and feels like it restores the new feel.

Woolite is made for wool garments, better grade billiard cloth has wool. It works great, however a small bottle of woolite is like $10. It should be enough to "shampoo" the table a dozen times or so.

I usually do this at night and turn the dehumidifier on full blast. You could also put a fan over the table, but it's not really necessary if you let it sit overnight. You're not getting the cloth soaking wet, just kind of damp.

Just get a dollar store spray bottle, put a cap of woolite in and fill it with water. set the nozzle to 'mist' and just lightly mist the cloth and wipe with microfiber cloth. Don't want to hose it down, just lightly mist. Vacuum before of course.

I'll give that a try. I've always done the method I posted but I'm open to new methods.

Don't do it! It will definitely play faster if you did as the iron will smooth most all the texture from the top of the wool/nylon blend cloth. Your ability to apply english will suffer immensely. It's the texture of the cloth that allows you to perform english.
I sometimes use a small carpet iron to increase the crease on my side pocket folds. Try ironing a piece of scrap cloth and you'll see what I mean.
