IS anyone shooting a Mike Gulyassy Custom Cue?

Just wondered if anyone was shooting with one of Mike Gulassy's custom cues. (Not a sledgehammer, one of his custom shooting cues.) I saw some and they looked really interesting. (Liked one in particular really well).

Any comments on the hit and quality would be much appreciated.

Gulyassy Custom Cue

I have had many dealings with Mike over the last 3 years and have ordered maybe 12 to 15 Custom cues in that time period. Great cue to play. I decided to retire my Tad cues after 25+ years and ordered my first cue in 2002. It took some getting used to coming from a very hard Tad cue to a Gulyassy with a Moori Med, my first Moori I might add, but now I have learned to let the cue work for me. Mike is first class and so are his cues and like pool players is always looking for new technique to make them even better. On a sidenote,If I ever did have a problem with a cue he immediatly took care of the problem at his charge. Can't ask for better service and I don't even live in America. I have many cues in my collection and the Gulyassy is my everyday playing cue!

I'm from Greenville where Mike lives, and I played with one of Mike's cues for years. They play great if you like a stiff hitting cue. His only problem (IMO) is that he has priced himself too high recently. His cues are priced equal to or higher than Gilbert, Skip Weston, and other premier cue makers, but I don't think his overall quality, reputation, and resale value are quite there yet.

Thanks for the insite. He had one cue at a the Viking 9 ball tournment that I liked a lot. But at $900, it just seemed to high. I didn't try and bargain with him as he didn't stike me as the type that would appreciate that.

He did do a great job of putting a new ferrel and tip on my current cue. Plays much better. Gilbert has been mentioned to me a few times, I will have to check them out. Thanks

Hay Mike's cues are nice and play good .If u try and talk to him he might have gave u a better deal on his q's .And what viking tournment were u at .Cause i was at the one in Atl, GA...U might have seen me .If u Were there .. :cool: :cool: :cool: :cool:
 
I have a Gulyassy that he made in 2001. It hits just like a Southwest but for 1/5 the price & I didn't have to wait 3 years to get it. I custom designed the cue after talking to Mike & he made it exactly to the design & specs I wanted. Took about 3-4 months. Mike was taught on how to make cues by Bill Schick, I think that gives him credibility enough. I saw Mike in Louisville at the DCC and even he was amazed that the finish on his cue still looked great & was in such great shape. He makes a high quality product. I have never understood the argument on how high the resale value of something is. I don't buy cues as an investment, I buy them to play with and I wouldn't play with anything but a Gulyassy. I won't say how much I paid for mine but I wouldn't sell it for twice what I paid for it. I don't go out buying a car thinking about what it will be worth when I sell it. I am going to drive that car into the ground, whether it is a Lexus or a Ford. Same with a cue. If it is the cue you want to play with, spend the money & be happy that you have something that you play well with. Not some ultra fancy stick that won't help you make a ball. I play literally 2 balls better once I started using my Gulyassy. You will too.

If you are checking out cues you may also want to look into Madison Bob cues,,, he makes a great cue at reasonable price.

I have also heard good things about Blackhearts cues but I have not had the chance to play with one of his cues.
