Is cue repair expensive ? Does a lot of repairs hurt the value much.
Take this cue for example.
RARE Palmer Model 20 20 oz Pool Cue w/ case on ebay
this is the fourth time I edited, why can't i get an ebay link to work? It wants me to sign in when I click onit?
What would it cost to repair this approximately? How bad would the repairs affect it's value. If it was an original 20(don't know) and it's value was a range of x dollars to y dollars. Would the repaired cue be worth a $100 less, $300 less? I just want to know so that I'm informed, It'll be a couple months before I get a high grade Palmer, if my wife will let me lol :)

This cue has some problems.

Minimum: Refinish $75 - $100, re-wrap $35 (they used wrong and unattractive wrap when this cue was done before), new butt cap (won't look like the real stuff) $50.

Also... it might be warped. It is missing the black ring closest to the joint. The pin is bent. I am going to estimate joint work at $100.

If the shaft is warped, possible shaft re-build with old parts $150.

The seller of the cue should have had the work done and sold a nice cue. I would be concerned why they didn't get the repairs made. I know a good cuemaker looked at it.

You can pick this cue up for less than it's book value, but be prepared to spend $400 - $500 to get it right, if it can be fixed right.

Chris,
thanks so much for your help ! :) I was curious about what it cost to fix butt caps mostly and if they looked original when done. I hope to have a higher end Palmer soon.
