Is cuemaking a good business?

cuemaking

Here's an old joke. Cuemaker has just won the lottery. Friend asks him what he's going to do with all the money. Cuemaker replies, I'm going to keep making cues until it's all gone.
Seriously, I would consider it a great hobby. Not a lot of people who can honestly say they make a decent living from it. If you love to play pool, do it as a hobby, full time and you can kiss your game good bye. It takes a lot of hours to be successful. Not only shop hours, but shows, tournaments, phone calls and emails. No benefits, bad working conditions,
long hours, heck I'm almost talking myself out of it.

Cuemaking is very competitive and there are many, many, excellent cuemakers out there. Very few of them can do it sucessfully full time. If you love it, then do it because of that. If you think you can pay your mortgage and support a family. Think again. I have a regular job and make cues on my spare time, on my own terms. I didn't want to PUMP out 12-15 cues a month working 80 hour weeks just to get by. It's very diffrent to view cuemaking as a full time job rather than a hobby. I do love my hobby though.
