Is it good luck or bad luck?

I see all this talk about Ko getting lucky, getting the rolls. Part of me wants to say, yes, he did. And, for years, I used to complain about certain peoples luck. Seemed like whenever they missed, they got an accidental hook.:angry:

Today, I look at it a little differently. Instead of saying he was lucky for missing and hooking me, I say I was the lucky one. I'm really the lucky one, because he missed a shot that he really shouldn't have missed. If he hadn't missed it, he would most likely have run out the table. But.....I GET TO THE TABLE when I really shouldn't have! Sure, it's a tough shot, but, I at least get a chance to turn things around and win the game when I shouldn't have gotten a chance at all !!

Luck.....it's all how you look at things.

Graet way to look at it!

I say the same thing all the time, I just want my turn at the table. I think a lot of the luck talk was because so many of us wanted SVB to get a well deserved world title.

Truth be told, it wasn't the rolls that got him, it was his mistakes. He's a Champion and he'll have his turn to celebrate again, but Ko deserved to win.

Yep, a much better way to look at things. More importantly, that perspective should get you more wins.

There are no game participants more caught up and whiny about luck than pool players.

This is why I'm not fond of the type of added rules where the only objective is to eliminate luck. It's not possible. As you say, someone is lucky when some unplanned thing happens.

One such rule is treating "call your shot" in the most strict manner. Such as calling a straight in a bank shot because the OB touched the rail before the pocket. Or taking away a shot because the OB rocked another ball on its way in.

This is not to say these rulings couldn't be agreed on prior to start of game. I've never seen that happen although. What I've seen is an argument and then the game is not as fun to play.

Excellent perspective Neil. The fact that you are back at the table is a good thing, and hopefully folks put in time working on their kicking skills. With that kind of "luck" good things usually happen ;)
