Is it ivory?

How can you tell if the inlays of your cue are ivory? Does it look a certain color or have a texture to it?

I am just wondering if the points in my cue (Schon LTD1122) are ivory. They are white with hardly visible lines through it, almost like some sort of shell....it's hard to describe.

I'm almost positive that all of the white material on a Schon(buttcap withstanding) is Ivory

just like jake said.. all the white in a schon is ivory except the buttcapp..

although, i saw one exception to that rule, a few years ago, maybe 2002?

Schon had a booth at Valley Forge and i met evan clarke.. anyways to make a long story short.. he had this cue there.. wow was it nice.. it had thick solid white rings at all the places rings would go, and the price on it was really low.. so i said to him.. wow thats a beautiful cue and an amazing price for so much ivory.. and he told me the rings and the buttcap werent real ivory but the rest of the inlays were.. i doubt they make many cues like that but it was the first time i ever saw a non ivory white in a schon..

There is a texture to the white in the rings on my cue, I do not know what they are made of. It reminds me of the pattern on an Ageus II ferrule...

The surest way would be to drill a hole in it and see if it smells like getting a tooth filled. Although this would probably make your cue unique it would also lesson the value quite a bit. Ivory often has a grain to it so it can be identified from experience however all ivory and some smaller pieces may not have these identifiable traits making it difficult to identify.
