Is Mike Sigel worthy of IPT Tour Status?

Is Mike worthy?.....Yes
Will he be successful?.... That depends on Mike. If Mike applies himself and wants to win, I think he can. Same goes for Varner and Rempe, Hall etc. Just because these guys are getting up in years means very little playing 8-ball. I can't think of anyone in the world (including Efren) that would be a prohibitive favorite playing any of the above champions. I was watching Buddy Hall at this years DCC. His weight might cause him problems ,His eyesight might be going a little south but there ain't nothing wrong his stroke. All he needs is a little Jenny Craig, and laser surgery..

The challenge matches accomplish two things. It gets more people a chance to qualify, and they give Mike Sigel the needed competitive practice. It's sparring.

Yes but is it serious sparring? Mike has nothing to lose in these matches except face. If your win rate is 50% you can never win a tourney.
Mike was a great player, [ maybe the best] but time takes its toll. To win a tourney you have to be able to play at the top of your game 24/7! It requires a lot of concentration and therefore a lot of energy.
I reckon if Mike plays from the first round, a 1/4 place would be an achievement. Its difficult ,if not impossible, to come back from a 20 year layoff and beat the present best players.

I'm sorry, but I think your wrong. Mike loses $2000 if he loses. If he wins he gets $2000. Now I might be wrong myself, but that is my understanding of it.

And "Oh by the way", he said that he didn't want to play anymore matches this past Saturday, he felt he was in stroke and didn't need to, so he said he didn't care if it cost him $2000 not to play.

He just wants to loosen up, and get into groove. I really hope he succeeds.

Mike Sigel, at age 35, became the youngest male elected to the BCA Hall of Fame. Born in Rochester, New York, Sigel began playing pool at 13 and turned professional when he was 20. A natural right-hander who shoots left-handed, Sigel won his first major tournament, the U.S. Open 9-Ball Championship, in 1975. His career blossomed quickly, and Sigel was perhaps the game's dominant player in the 1980. He amassed 38 major 14.1 and 9-Ball championships in that decade. Sigel has won three World 14.1 crowns (1979, 1981, and 1985) and one World 9-Ball title (1985), as well as numerous national titles.
