Is my Schon an R1?

Not sure when I purchased this but I think it was in the late 80's or early 90's while at a tournament at Starchers in Akron Oh. The silver rings were optional. When I look at the STL 1, it has a black rings above and below the wrap as well as on the base and joint area. My Schon does not have the black wrings at the wrap I that matters. I have 2 dots in the Schon at the butt. The shaft is not marked with Schon. Any input will be greatly appreciated.

A friend of mine had one years ago, very similar buttsleeve other than his was very light in color. Its definitely after 85 and the STL series started in 99. If you are sure you acquired it pre 99 its for sure an R1 cue. The one ferrule is a good indication also.

On Tate's site the R-1 shown with the SP series catalog looks just like it and I had an R1 that looked just like it.
The R-1 under the R series cues has all dash rings

Cue

The R1 has dash rings at top and bottom of butt sleeve..
This site has some cue gurus who might know.

Probably stl --1-
"early model-
r 1 had stitch rings,
not silver rings-
early r 1 had small, thin black collar above the butt cap"

schon

I would say r1 because of the yellow macarta. He did them in silver and stitch. The dots above the zero mean nothing. He said he did that for a short time to help pronounce the word Schon but it didn't help so he stopped it. He left in 91 or 92 So my guess is r1, I get my info from Bob. Thank you

R1

The early R1’s had stitch rings in all positions. Later they offered the silver rings in all positions. In about 90 or so, they switched to fewer rings (silver) but a plain thin black ring above and below the wrap. I believe somewhere in the mid 90’s they went with a single silver ring at the joint and would be called a R1 or STL1 depending on who you asked or who ordered it.

I have an early one with all the stitch rings and it plays fantastic.

Thanks for R1 picture.

Picture of the R1 looks just like mine with the silver rings. They were optional on the early Schons. I have the Schon price listing brochure dated 1986 that shows the silver ring as an option. Thanks again for the pictures.
