Slate does bend...see pic here of Glen Hancock using a bottle jack to get the bow out if the 'slate'.
Once straightened, he then super-glued it via the old playing card trick (although I think he used a business card, as playing cards dont wick very well).
I used 'slate' in quotes, because if it is really a GC1, it may be Brunstone, and not slate. Very brittle, and prone to breakage if torqued on too much.
