Wanting to see what others think of the fact that 7 out of the worlds top 10 players are not attending due to the fact of the close proximity to the world championship in poland to the derby.
Ding Ding Ding. We have a winner. The Derby isn’t a pro event. Wasn’t designed to be. Sure pro’s come play and win it. But that’s not the jam there. Wasn’t the idea from day one.

Over 400 players have entered the 9-Ball event each of the last 3 years. But, of course, the winner doesn't play 400 opponents. The number of matches played by the winner was 13 in 2022 and 2020 and 14 in 2019. And, as we know, some of the opponents in the early rounds are far from pro caliber. Still, victory in this event is significant, with a large number of pros in the field.Coming 1st in a field that large? I can't even imagine. Regardless of all the dead money your bound to hit someone getting lucky or shooting lights out that isn't even pro speed.
