Is the IPT prime for sharp end dumping?

In the early rounds that is where the GLI comes in. You lose too many games and you do not advance to the next round. Charlies Williams, Gabe Owen and Corey Deuel each won two matches in their round but only Corey advanced because his GLI was lower.

You lose too many games, not matches, and it can put you out of the tournament.

Are you saying that, if Gabe had a lower GLI in that round, that he too would have advanced? i.e. was it two-advance or one-advances? That makes a difference. The discussion was how to prevent dumping when TWO people are to advance...

And another question - is a player's GLI cumulative over rounds? Or is it used only within a given round?

I'd love to see a webpage with this whole system written up so I can get a better understanding. (hint, hint)

It's cumulative over the entire season, not just one round robin.

I'm sure they calculate the cumulative GLI over the entire season for statistics purposes, but I doubt they'd have the season GLI affect a specific tournament.

From my understanding, the GLI is reset to 0 when a particular tournament begins. The tournament GLI is cumulative within a given tournament, such that your losses from a previous round within the same tournament can affect you in a later round. But I don't think losses in one tournament can affect your chances in another tournament.

Maybe I'm wrong. Is it written somewhere in the IPT website?

I'm pretty sure Pat is right and its over the season, I think it is one of the metrics used to order the money list in the event of players finishing on the same amount?

During the KOTH I was having trouble getting the numbers to jive after round 1 so maybe the GLI is cumulative for the tournament. I was lead to believe that the GLI was for that round only but since the numbers didn't come out right perhaps they were cumulative for every round the player played in. I don't know.

I sure don't know if the GLI will now follow a player everytime he plays in an IPT event. sorta like a baseball players batting average for the year.
