Is the Simonis X1 worth it for cleaning the Simonis 860?? I read the instructions and it says to rub back and forth with the X1 to clean the cloth.

I was taught to only brush the cloth in one direction vs back and forth as the Simonis X1 instructions state.
Is the the best way to clean Simonis 860 color is tournament blue.
Thank you

Clean with X1 one direction from head to foot one width at a time. At the foot from left foot to right foot as an option to finish. I do a very slight overlap lengthways. Just do like the instructions say and wet it to clean it. Water only on tough spots on Simonis Cloth.

one direction applies to old directional cloth. all worsteds are uni-directional so it makes no difference. and yes, the x-1 works great if used right as in light pressure and fast motions.

I have a simonis X1, kind of a waste of 90 bucks to me.
i still can't figure why people say this. if used the right way they remove a LOT of chalk dust. LIGHT downward pressure and fast motion. that pad is capable of holding a whole cube's worth of chalk dust. i've taken one outside after its done about four tables and CLOUDS of chalk come off when you hit it on something.

My hand and glove remove quite a bit too. So does a dust wipe. I go for the horse hair vac.
Would you like to buy one used?

They are quick and easy, and effective if used properly. I would not want it to be my only option but it's handy to have around.
I wouldn't want to use it on a very dirty table, but it's ideal for use in between vacuumings.

I vacuum first with a shop vac with a dedicated floor brush used only on my table

Followed by light fast motions in all directions with the X-1 all over the table. Followed by one-way swipes from the foot of the table to the head of the table one X-1 width at a time.

Then I take the brush off the vacuum and put the nozzle directly on the X-1 to suck off the chalk. Removed a visible amount of blue chalk when using Masters, Blue Diamond and Majic chalk in the past. Hardly any since using green Taom chalk.

I'll preface by saying that I'm a table technician. I have seen the long-term effects of many different maintenance routines.

That said, I highly recommend the Simonis X-1. When used properly, chalk dust will be kept to a minimum, and the life of the cloth will be preserved, versus many other regular maintenance routines.

Is it a necessity? No... But, if you want a tool that is easy to use, and performs the job quickly, it is a worthwhile investment. However, be mindful that they DO NOT last forever.

Also be mindful that you may still need to vacuum and/or use a lint roller for larger debris.

All i can tell you is you didn't use it right. I've used them since they came out and have friends that own them too. They all use them and like the results. If you push down too hard it will not work.
I do use it once in a while after the vacuum, but find the effort is not worth it, and don't really see a difference in the cloth afterwards.

I hadn't used it in years, and just took it out 3 weeks ago when I switched from Masters to Taom. I wanted to make sure the table was as clean as I could get it for the switch. I vacuumed it more than usual, then did a damp hot cloth (which I never do), then used the x1. I read the directions again (as it's been years) and followed them carefully. Quick back and forth motions with light pressure. My arm was quite tired after doing the whole table. Yes, there was some blue chalk on the pad, but not enough for me to want to do that every cleaning.

I have one but I use it with a micro fiber towel. I buy a pack of twenty and one sheet will last a week or two with regular chalk cleaning everyday. With the taom chalk I get 4 weeks or so. Once a year I wash them and reuse them. The X1 works great as a base for the micro fibers. It works okay on its own., but will get saturated eventually even if you vacuum it.

Don't think it better than using a vacuum then a slightly damp microfiber cloth.

To me its nearly a gimmick. It's better than nothing, but isn't even close to what needs to be done.
Sorry folks, there's no shortcuts.

A friend bought me one when it came out. Maybe its been improved since then. Don't know.
