I have a Mottey from '86 that has a slight warp at the "A" joint. Is there anything that can ever be done to fix it or is it basically firewood now? It is slight and doesn't affect the playability of the cue, but I know it is warped and I am sure it would have a HUGE impact on resale if that day ever came...

There is hope. Your cue can be repaired.

I have an early Palmer model J with Szamboti points that was warped. It rolled across a flat table top like a teenager doing the latest hip hop dance. I sent it to Jerry Rauenzahn, he replaced the maple under the wrap and completely took out the warp, then he refinished the cue. Jerry -R- wrapped it with original Cortland wrap white with green speck. Personally I think it's better than new, but that's my opinion. Talk to Jerry -R-; he can work with it; and he's reasonably priced on repairs.

Here's his link to his web page info.

Hope this helps,

I would send it to Mr. Mottey, especially if your worried about resale value.

Let's see here, others are worried about resale value and you have a butt that's warped?? It seems to me that any work that straightens out the warp will increase it's current value. IMHO when you check out how much Paul Mottey charges -vs- Jerry Rauenzahn for repairs you will make money with Jerry's work. Then again maybe I'm wrong. Maybe Paul Mottey stands behind his work and won't charge you anything because it's Paul's work that warped. I think I would check them both out and go from there. What do you have to lose?? It costs you pennies to make a couple of phone calls. Let us know how it turns out.

Hope you get your warped butt repaired at a fair price.

Thanks for all the comments and suggestions guys. I shipped the cue to Paul and it arrived at his shop on Monday. Its in his hands now...I will let you know what the outcome is in the end.

No cuemaker in the world is ethically, or by any other standard, bound to stand behind a warped cue that was built over 20 yrs. ago. Heaven only knows where that cue has been or what it's been subjected to or who's done what to it. If it were one of my cues, I'd certainly be agreeable to make the repair but at a price.

I had a Meucci, that was as straight as an arrow, untill the hot humid months came. Then it would warp. Come fall, it would be just fine. I never did figure it out...JER

the comment you responded to said " hope you get your butt repaired at a fair price" and I'm not expecting Paul to fix it for free...but what is a fair price?
