Is this a Brunswick Gold Crown or a Saunier Wilhelm

I agreed to buy this table today, but even after agreeing to buy it, I'm unsure if it's a Gold Crown, or a copy of a Gold Crown. The table has a Brunswick logo on the ball storage area, and a Saunier-Wilhelm name plate on the table surround.

I've done some research and learnt a little about the history of Saunier-Wilhelm, but I'm still not sure if this is a GC with an SW name plate, or a GC copy. I'm hoping one of you will have seen one like this before and can give me some background on what I've bought :) (Feel free to hit me with the good and the bad)

Appears to be a Gold Crown 2

It looks like a Brunswick Gold Crown 2. Not sure why someone would put have removed the Brunswick name plate.

From the pictures provided... I'd say it's a GC with a different nameplate.
Some older Gold Crowns had plastic name plates the were easily broken.
Replacement Brunswick plates are readily available from Classic Billiards.

It used to be a very common practice for one company to replace the nameplate on a table with a nameplate of their own. I never did think that it was particularly honest but that is the way it used to be. And that appears to be the case here. I am not sure but it appears to be a GC I or possibly an early GC II.

If it is a Saunier Wilhem table I would doubt they would have a 'B' on the ball box.

Robertson Billiards in Forida used make black tables similar to the Saunier Wilhem.

Thank you very much guys.
The table was delivered and installed today, and all the family have been enjoying playing on it tonight.
It looks to me like it is a Brunswick Gold Crown 1, and seems to play well.
The feet are not adjustable, and the bottom of the rails have the figure 8 pattern to the bolt plates that I've read are distinctive to the GC1.

I'd already posted a link to photos of the table taken before it was broken down and delivered to me, but today I've taken a bunch more photos as the table was delivered and assembled. You can see them all here: https://plus.google.com/u/0/photos/105814423901270242655/albums/6071615203700564449

Thanks again for the help. It's great to learn about the history and heritage of the table I've bought.

The upside down rail with the figure 8 hold down plate definately tells me its a GCI. Is that a 9' table or a Pro 8'? Table looks good. You will have fun with it. I have had mine just short 3 years and I use it at least 5-6 times a week.

It's a 9 footer. It just fits in the room :)

Did you ever get a brunswick name plate? I'm really interested in the saunier -wilhem plate if you still have it.

Back in the day it was common practice for some companies to make tables for other companies without nameplates, which would later be added to the tables by the company that actually sold the table, instead of the company that made it. I know Brunswick did this, and I know Victor did it. I have an old Victor table that never had a Victor nameplate on it, instead it has a Charlotte Billiards Mfg Co plate, and they never actually MADE pool tables. Also as mentioned before in this thread it was common for table repairmen to change the nameplates o advertise their repair business.

My table is a salem table.....I didn't pay close attention to the i.d. numbers, just a shipping label , from saunier-wilhem sc to a home in columbus ohio......how it got from there to connecticut is anybody's guess??
