Is this a Fraud!!

It looks like one to me. Just not his usually style. The pin looks like the same. They all have that indention on the top. You may ask the seller to take a pic of the pin. They are engraved with capone custom cues.

I purchased the cue off this board from Mike (Spanky) about 1 year ago. The cue is different in that it has a black radial pin and not the typical silver with the engraving. There is no engraving in the pin. The cue was sold to me as a Capone that was for Danny Basavich. I did not mention Danny's name in the auction because I did not have any actual documentation that it was his and I have not seen him for a bit around the rooms in my area.

I did add the Stack leather wrap to the cue and the cue pretty much was not played with after that.

Aaron I see you post on the boards quite a bit and I respect the work you do with the refinishing and rewrapping, but I think it is a little strong to come out and use the word fraud when you do not have any idea of what is going on. If you want to question something that is fine, but using the word fraud has very strong implications and should not have been used in this case. My family has been in this business for almost 30 years and have owned 3 pool rooms over that time including one that we still have - PoolTime in NJ.

Ask around to the people that know us and you will fine we have collected some of the best cues ever and still have a decent collection left. Look at some of my previous posts as to what I have.

This cue was 100% sold to me as a Capone and I have no reason to doubt that. I also, since you went and potentially killed things for me, called Mike Capone to verify, but he is not in now and his message box is full. I will continue to try and reach him as he is the only one to get the actual answer from. You could have also done the same before calling for possible fraud by me. If it turns out to not be a Capone I will absolutely state so and it is something that I would have been completely unaware of. Mike (Spanky) has sold many cues on this board and I had no reason to doubt him at the time of purchase. If it is a Capone I think you owe an apology for potential defamation of character. Coming out with extremely strong words like fraud could very well hurt possible further dealings I have with people on this board + the fact that fraud constitutes a knowing act - that I am purposely trying to rob from people and that is a very strong accusation.

Maybe think before you choose your words.

I can't say for sure if it is a Capone, but the inlays don't look right to me. The points on the inlays are obviously rounded. On my Capone, the points on all of the inlays are razor sharp.

Well

I don't know. I am certainly not accusing him. It's just the pin is a 3/810 pin and the inlays don't look right. Thanx Aaron

If Mike

If Mike sold it to you I'm sure it is. I would not of even posted that if I would have known you were a AZ member. Sorry, did not mean to shit on your auction.:o Thanx Aaron

Black Radial Pin

I know you do repair work so you should be able to recognize a Radial pin. It is not a 3/8x10. It is mentioned in the ad that it is a Black Radial pin.

As far as it not being engraved, I am not sure. I do not state I am the Capone cue expert, so I am not sure if all his cues have always had the engraving or if this is something he started down the road.

I in no way meant to call you or accuse you of anything. It was a mear hey, DO you guys think this is a fraud? Again, had I even knew you were a member here I would have never made this thread even. So Sorry! Mike (Spanky) is a stand up guy and if he says it is a Capone it is. Don't give it another thought. Thanx Aaron 815-243-1101

I do believe his earlier cues were not engraved. Again, No harm no foul. Did not mean to accuse you of anything! Thanx Aaron

I know sean is right. Also if I am not mistaken before he engraved his radial pins he did sign some of his cues in the forearms. I think perhaps it is the tip of the joint pin that isnt as long as they are now that is throwing you off.Since Valley forge he has been using a different radial pin. I think the pin is the same size it is just different on the tip. His previous pins were rounded shaped like a bullet at the tip. His new pins are not as rounded on the tip and they are still engraved.

Ian,

Are you sure the joint isn't ivory? It sure looks like a phenolic sleeved ivory joint to me.

I wish I would have read this post earlier.. I am very sorry Ian for not helping you. If I would have saw the ebay auction I would have bid also..

This cue is 100% Mike Capone.. It came with 2 predator shafts.. One was a little thin so I had Mike Capone make the 2 new shafts..

The reason it had 2 predator shafts is that it was made for and played with by Danny Basavich..

Mike confirmed all of this for me...

If you still have cue.. How much?

Mike
