is this cortland?

I am a Cortland Addict.......and the line that Sean has published isn't Cortland.

Nonetheless, despite knowing nothing about Sunset fishing line, I think I'd still give this a try.

The diameter of the line looks okay and I like the pattern.......what matters most is the feel of the wrap.

Sean, you commented about the great feel. Did the line require much pressing? How's does it hold up under play? Were any other colors made?

Thanks,

Matt B.

Wrap

I guess we can agree to disagree, respectfully. :) Best feeling stuff I've ever had my hands on.

Sure, I understand.

Just wondering if the linen was wrapped on the cue in the same direction as it came off the spool. This could account for the unevenness appearance.

I can't stand by and do nothing. I must protect that linen! Sell me the cue. I'll save it, lol.

You have enough nice cues unless you sold em all since I was in Canton!

No way, you don't need a Tibbitts!

Haha! I have plenty! I'll take it! Stop back up sometime, we can hit some. 9 footer, bar box tables, any game, I don't care, LOL...

As I recall, the diameter of this stuff was very much inline with Cortland #9. It lays down very smooth without much effort pressing. It's REALLY GOOD stuff, imho, as good as the other more known brands. It has only been put on 3 cues thus far, I believe, and they all turned out feeling great! I've not seen it in other colors and in fact, I had never seen any before except in paper advertisements, until a few years ago when I happened into two unused spools of it.

That may be the case, Jack. In looking at the other pics I have of the spools, they looked pretty consistent and uniform.

Regardless of how the line was removed from the spool and subsequently installed on the cue in a reverse direction, I think the line looks fine and I wish I could see it in person......Look, Cortland Linen is disappearing fast......... I imagine somewhere in the USA there's a cue-maker using Cortland as a cue's wrap every couple of days... or even say weekly....and obviously on some occasions, several cues are being wrapped on the same day just by a coincidence factor.

There's only 400 yards of Cortland Linen #9 on a spool....that's 8 cues in total barring no unforeseen mishaps or spoilage. How many more yards of this stuff even exists? I'm not talking about someone who unknowingly has a spindle or spool of Cortland on the back shelf collecting dust. That's a unknown treasure awaiting to be discovered.......I mean people or places to go to buy some.....Cortland is becoming limited to basically #9....the price is going up all the time and it's darn hard to find right now......imagine in 5 years?

We need a substitute and Hurlbert Linen isn't the answer.......unless their line quality has noticeably improved.....so maybe Sean is on to something.....I sure hope so.......folks like myself that are a big fan of using Cortland Linen for our pool cues are screwed due to its increasing scarcity and eventual, if not imminent, demise entirely. So we need a replacement and today there isn't one and perhaps....just maybe....this could be the start of something good. There aren't many options available today when you're a Cortland Linen groupie and this at least offers some hope.

Sean......thanks for sharing this information.

Looking at the cue, and the picture of the spool of this linen, there don't appear to be wrapping problems. The linen is just braided a bit strangely. Look at the spool carefully, and pick up the fourth line from the bottom. It goes quite a distance left to right without any green braiding at all.

So, that says nothing about the feel of the linen; it could be excellent. Might even be better than Blue Mountain, which has sort of a plastic feel to it until it's well worn in. This stuff may be the next best thing to Cortland in feel, I don't know. At any rate, this linen looks like in finishes well, even if the green line braiding may be inconsistent.

The only game I'm going to play with you if I bring my Tibbitts is "keep away" LOL
