is this normal?

Maybe a silly question but the bottom of my shaft is much shinier and slicker than the upper portion of my shaft. The top seems dull and without luster compared to this small section of 'clean?' shaft near the bottom. I've notticed this in videos and on other shafts so i'm assuming it's normal. My question is what causes this?

There is a clear finish on that part of the shaft.

The stroking area of the shaft does not get finish sprayed on it for a couple of reasons. One being that when your hands sweat, it will become sticky. Second, if you ding or dent it, you have to have the shaft resprayed to fix it.

I just stripped a shaft that a guy sprayed over so it wouldn't discolor from the chalk. Well, the finish itself discolored and turned a nasty brown. Talk about a mess!
