Is your most often used cue and favorite cue, the same?

What brand/model/cue maker butt and shaft do you most regularly shoot with? In a handful of discussions that I have had, sticking with the same cue is recommended for skill development or to play consistently. Anyone disagree with this?

So my playing cue right now is a 85 Richard Black built off a full splice custom built Helmstetter blank.

But my favorite is a 73 Szamboti barbell.

Either way I pair it with a 30" Triple 60 CF shaft

Becue Natural Born Naked 29" butt and Becue Prime II 12.0mm 30"shaft with a 3" extension I leave on all the time, it's my favorite cue because it's the one I play the best with, the butt, shaft and extension are all CF, their cues are engineered to transfer the power of your stroke more efficiently, I'm starting to do things with the cueball I never believed I could ever do, been playing without a glove for the last 3 weeks, silky smooth, this cue is a ball making machine......

I have a small collection of cues, I like them all.
The shaft is what most important to me, other things that the butt contribute are things that I can get used to very fast. For years I only played with a Predator 314 shafts and except for a few cues, I have a 314 shafts to fit most of them.
Today I switch between the 314 and CF shafts.
I can adjust to them pretty fast so I’m not worried about it hurting my game but then again I’m past my serious playing days.

Today I mostly use the cues that I have a screw in extension.
I have a slip on extension that fit the rest but it is not as good as a screw in one.

My player is Schon H4 /aftermarket leather wrap. Topped off with a 12.4 Revo
My fav is my Doc in the avatar. I do not play with it.
I agree about using the same cue consistently

I have a bunch of cues and don't really have a favorite. If I had to pick, it would probably be a Jerry Olivier at the moment.

I have a bunch of Revos so I can pick up pretty much any of the butts I own and shoot them with a 12.9 Revo. For me at least, as long as the butts are similar in weight and balance, it doesn't make much difference after a couple racks because the tips and shafts are the same. This is especially so once they are set up for Predator style extensions.

Everyone as a favorite cue and you're gonna use it the most. Don't worry about what other people use/do, find one you like and use it.

My most often used cue is a butt that I made with a cynergy shaft, but my favorite is my Sugartree because the hit is so lively. It's not LD, so it would be a big adjustment to switch to it permanently, but I do take it out of the case frequently to play a few racks.

Ed Peterson CF shaft (EAP Cues)

EAP Custom cue butt is my favorite (so pretty!) but I play with it rarely at home, not at the hall. I have it more to just have it. (Yeah, I know, INCOMING!!)

Second favorite is a kind of nice Orchid. I played with it some at the hall. It’s 0.6 oz lighter than the other cues I list here.

My regular player is an Adam I found on FB Marketplace for $80. It has decals, not inlays.

All these cues are 5/16x18, and the CF shaft fits them all. With the exception of the Orchid being slightly lighter, all these butts feel and play pretty much the same.

I try not to play with my “best” cues because 1) the hall I am playing at has really tight quarters and 2) I am clumsy and can’t seem to go a session without banging the butt on a leg of one of the metal bar stools that line the tables.

The hall I used to play at will re-open soon, moving into a MUCH larger space and cue butt-chair leg collisions will be much less likely since they planned for way, way more room between the pool tables and spectator tables and chairs. I will probably use the Orchid there.

I also have a different Adam that I was using for a couple of years but it has a plastic joint, and even though it is the same weight as my other Adam player, it’s balance point is farther back so I no longer use it.

It has become much easier for me to pick a cue since switching Kielwood shafts. I have 4 shafts with different joint threads and shaft diameters. The weights are all close and as heavy as my original. maple shafts. So now it’s just a matter of deciding which KW shaft do I want to use and match it to one of my cue butts that are all the same weight.

Do I have a favorite? Not really but the cue that feels the best is my Scruggs flat ivory radial cue butt (14.5 ozs) paired with a Cory Barnhart KW shaft (29.5”, 12.60mm, 4.04ozs.). It’s a close close edging out either of my Bob Owen cue butts (14.5 ozs ea. & 3/11 brass pin flat ivory joint) & 4.0 ozs KW shaft built by Jim Pierce.

The Scruggs combination just plays so soft and sweet that you feel as if you can will the cue ball to do what you want. IMO, Kielwood plays better than the orig. Scruggs shafts I thought played great until I discovered KW.
